So you could actually see the Alps from Ljubljana?

when i broswed in google earth the lower eastern Slovenia Alps seemed more interesting shapewise then Trigalv, they are more open. However the Trigalv Area is surely very steep. The south slovenia landscape at Coper is great aswell, a lot of forests there with mountains up to 1500 m I think, also very interesting.

The Kamnik–Savinja Alps rise up directly from Ljubljana Basin, that's why they are so noticeable.

It's easier to take such photos from "ground level" (plains, roads) because there's a large plain to the south of Kamniško-Savinjske Alpe/Steiner Alpen and some lower mountains east and west, while Triglav is among other mountains, and Julian Alps in turn have other hills around and plenty of steep narrow valleys, so they never stand out so much.

I also don't remember ever noticing them from Postojna, I guess the weather is often too unstable in between I hope I'll remember to look next time I go to the coast.

Maybe they're only visible from a truck.

Thanks. I guess from a lower vehicle the first time those mountains are visible is when driving on Vrhnika viaduct, probably that's why you took this picture:

Beautiful, almost entire Slovenian motorway network (except in urban areas) is scenic like that.

True, either it is the alps, or the lower mountains at south Slovenia, that are covered with lot's of forests, it is a very wild country.

You could even see them from Piran at the coast. Hard to see, but you can see snow in the distance. I took this picture in May 2009.

Here is a better shot of the Julian Alps (Triglav in the middle) from the Adriatic coast.
