This is not just about money... this is pathetic, Slovenia!
With 8 million euros planned for roads next year we can build 1 km of A4.

Compared to costs for the existing A4 it would suffice for ~0.5 km, yes.

National spatial plan has been adopted for megalomaniacal 4-lane expressways to Metlika and Črnomelj (with no coordinated connection with Croatia).

What the heck? According to 2012 traffic counts the AADT on the roads in that area is only 4,400 - 6,000 vpd.

R1-218 Metlika-Črnomelj has just 3,300-3,600 AADT.

Chris, can you rename this thread? It still has the old title. Thanks.

Main road Novo mesto - Metlika is very curvy with practically no possibilities for overtaking and goes also through numerous villages, so new expressway is planned. However most local demands have been taken into consideration so this megalomanic plan has been proposed. Whole area has just 26300 people and it is one of the least developed regions in Slovenia.

As I know people from that area they want just faster and better connection to Novo mesto and not that megalomanic plan which are mostly wet wishes of local authorities. But new road will attract much more transit traffic to southern Croatia and western Bosnia (it would be about 70 km shorter) so it is better to plan main connection 2x2 from the beginning.

The fact is that this is only spatial plan with all the possibilities and actual construction will probably be only expressway Novo mesto - Metlika with just most necessary road connections. Everything else will be built much later or even never.

This may be new Croatian A14: a motorway from Novigrad na Dobri exit (future interchange) to Slovenian border. Length about 18 kilometers. Even the famous "Kalmetina" (Zadar connector expressway) is a tiny bit longer. Let's say that the money from Cohesion funds is smiling...

All you need is a short expressway from Bosiljevo to the border (unless we're taking into account future connection with NW Bosnia).

If there will be motorway until Vinica, connection Karlovac-Metlika is pointless IMO.

Pavement on the Izola expressway bypass is terrible, by the way.
