Already in Kingdom of Yugoslavia (before WW2) it was planned that main Ljubljana-Zagreb road connection would run in Sava valley (after war that was changed) and a bridge over railway was built (just that) in 1940 which still stands today, alone:

They should demolish it, otherwise it will collapse one day. I think it's better that the LJ-ZG motorway runs via NM.

At least it doesn't end in a kerb and a wall.

Unless something has changed, Gruskovje/Macelj will remain dual. The controls are apparently joined (on the Slovenian side) in the event of heavy traffic, but there are no plans to permanently join the two there.

Not quite sure why this is the case, given that the controls at Bregana have been joined. I can only assume that there must be some technical reason as to why not.

There are quite a few places left where the controls aren't joined - including my favourite place Rogatec/Hum na Sutli. It's worth pointing out that in my experience, the border police are doing the job that the Customs guys used to do - they're still looking in cars and questioning travellers as to what they're bringing in/out.

Last Thursday I took some pictures of recent ice storm damage. Pictures were taken from A1 motorway and Postojna-Logatec secondary road

At A1-H4 interchange

Most of those damaged trees will be cut down in next weeks and months

All that brown colour on hills were trees before

Looks like after tornado, just on very large area:

Electricity is still not readily available even after 3 weeks

Napoleon's avenue (trees were planted in Napoleon time)

At least 7 million cubic meters of wood will have to be removed from forests and that will change landscape considerably for decades to come, especially around Postojna.

EDIT: sorry for large pictures, they are linked directly from my FB page. FB apparently saves pictures in 2K format.

Amazing photos. I'm used to floods and fires in this small country year after year, but this time weather had no mercy. If half of all Slovenian forests look like that, then that's a long-lasting natural disaster.

Question 1: what is the difference in choosing north/west or south/east bypass of Ljubljana? I will do 2 travels coming on A2 around the capital and further A2 towards Croatia, and was thinking to choose A2 once and H3+A1 the other time.
I will probably buy the 1 month vignette for this.

Question 2: from where can you get these panoramas over Kranj?

Question 3: what do you recommend for a short stop (maybe also eat and fuel) between Karawanke and Novo Mesto? Besides Bled and Ljubljana?
My destination will be Trogir...

1. If you go from Kranj to Novo mesto, then the northern+eastern bypass is a little longer.

2. That must be shot from Šmarjetna gora or Sveti Jošt nad Kranjem (Saint Josse above Kranj ).

3. You seem to be interested in Kranj, but you should first go to Škofja Loka and next time to Kranj (sorry, bzbox). (unless you have time for both)

Thanks for the answers

I was just looking for a nice place to take a break, but not to lose much time to get there from the motorway, since Ingolstadt - Trogir is a long way. Škofja Loka looks very nice, but there's extra 38 minutes only for the road detour.

Kranj is close to the motorway.
Šmarjetna Gora looks nice, with 25 minutes road detour.

I will see

Nice motorways

But why is there signed A1 on blue signs instead of H3?
