The queues on the borders in the summer weekends are terrible as follows:
- directions North-South and West-East: July and beginning of August (start of holidays)
- directions South-North and East-West: end of August, beginning of September (end of holidays).

There are two types of travellers: tourists to the Adrian/Aegean coast and gastarbeiters from Turkey.

The queues on the HR/SRB and SRB/BG borders are the worst!

What route would you choose, coming north of Ljubljana towards Trogir?

1. http://goo.gl/maps/E34a4 (route Zagreb-Zadar I should have already driven)
2. http://goo.gl/maps/yr4tS (route Ljubljana-Rijeka I have already driven)
3. http://goo.gl/maps/iqCKa

Go via Metlika or Kočevje. The third option probably takes ages.

We take this route to Dalmatia: http://goo.gl/maps/GFxe4 It's definitely the shortest, though perhaps not the fastest.

Believe it or not, there's good news regarding A4: http://www.delo.si/novice/slovenija/...gruskovje.html

The remaining 13 km of motorway from Draženci to Gruškovje border will finally be built. There will be two sections. Expected opening of the entire stretch is in spring/summer 2018, before the tourist season!

Good news indeed. Do you have plans of the motorway design? The article mentions a 110m long tunnel, I wonder where it's located and how the border crossing is going to look.

It's strange. Only 20 million € for 13km including a 110m tunnel and more than 50 bridges? Btw: EU funded.

The first section Drazenci - Podlehnik is announced to be built from late 2014 until early 2016. The second section Podlehnik - Gruskovje contains a viaduct. Construction will begin in fall 2015 and will be completed until Mid 2018.

it's weird how the article calls it Pyhrn motorway while in fact it's just A4 or Podravska motorway. by this logic A2 would be Karavanke/Tauern motorway

That's how much DARS will pay, the motorway will cost 207 million euros.

Our media called it Pyhrn motorway (usually spelt 'Phyrn') already in 1990s if not sooner.

90% EU refund? That's a decent bargain I'd say.

So the tunnel is going to be located here, right?

No, 90% EU refund is not possible, there's an error in the article. 50% refund is max. They'll use 20M € for land purchase.

Yes, that's the place for the tunnel.

It will actually cost 252,3m €, 50% will cover DARS, remaining money will come from state budget/ some EU money. 20m € which article talks about is just for planning cost, buying remaining land..

Small % and it's right that is so, cause this motorway is of little importance to Slovenia, compared to the big expense/loss of land.
