something has obviously very changed in Austria since winter.
i am just looking at the bill from 06.02. I bought Eurosuper 95 for 1,549€/l at Zöbern. at the same time in Croatia i tanked for 10,15 kn/l (1,335€/l). in the midtime in Croatia we got extra 0,03€/l tax, but difference is still obvious.

Recommendation for Austria, very conveniently located at the A9: Take the exit Graz-Seiersberg. There is a 24/7 gas station at the Hofer supermarket. Usually the cheapest in town (there is a website to check Austrian prices www.spritpreisrechner.at ) and just 100 meters from the A9!

Today, for instance, according to the website:
Super 95 € 1,364
Diesel € 1,269

But in general, you'll be fine with Dobovec on a Friday.

As an aside, the only time my car was searched on the SLO/HR border was at Hum na Sutli. I imagine crossing to Croatia to buy a drink, walking back into Slovenia to get my car (parked nearby) and then driving into Croatia looked strange to them

Verso - it's really so bad as to fill up the entire A4? I never go on the motorway because I can do Klodzko (PL) to Mureck (on the A/SLO border) on a single tank of fuel - so Mureck is the perfect place to fill up for the final run to the coast while avoiding the Slovenian vignette.
What if I am in this situation: some passagers have EU-passport and some do not ?

It only applies if the non-EU passport members are family members of at least one of the EU citizens travelling. If you're not related, unfortunately, you'll have to use Dobovec.

Having said this, I'd be inclined to give Rogatec/Hum na Sutli a try anyway. They might just turn a blind eye if you've got Schengen residence permits, as you wouldn't be stamped in/out of Schengen anyway. The border crossing is right next to the road to Dobovec, so you'll only lose a couple of minutes by trying Rogatec first.

Oh, we forgot to mention that since 1st July the Slovenian Roads Agency is left without money for maintenance of 6,000 km of state roads!

I think cestnina is toll in Slovenian, in Croatian it's cestarina (cesta means road in both language).
The Czech adjectvive for Czech should be Cestina (or something like that, salvic languages have complicate declinations).

In real life, electronic toll collection was first introduced in Bergen, Norway in 1986, and well into the 21th century many countries still struggle to implement it.

Do you need a vignette for H5, if you drive from Trieste to Koper? Or other way around?
