I don't see why it shouldn't require a vignette (compared to other expressways and motorways), although I wouldn't require it for the entire H6 and H5. It's stupid to buy a vignette for those few kilometres.

H6 Koper-Izola will be opened on 5th June. I came to an agreement with DARS that they will open it on the 9th anniversary of my registration on SSC (that's a joke, of course ).

Which is pretty logical. Why build 90 mil. € tunnel just to be for free as the only section of motorway or expressway in Slovenia?

Will the existing Izola bypass (currently G111) be renumbered H6? I've read in the Italian newspaper "Il Piccolo" that it will be tolled too, but it didn't say anything about the road number.

And are H6 Izola-Lucija and H5 Koper-Dragonja still planned or have they been cancelled?

Not now but I think this is just a matter of time. Or at the latest when extension to Lucija will be finished.

If I got it right (using Bing Translator), there is a matter with awarding the contract. Appeal... And it's said, if construction would start in May 2015, the first section could be opened in September 2017, the entire motorway by July 2018.

Could fit with Croatian accession to Schengen, particularly as Romania and Bulgaria are still nowhere near being given a date for entry and it would be politically impossible to admit Croatia while keeping those two out.

Having said that, building the A4 and Croatia entering Schengen just moves the jam to the Macelj toll plaza. If the A4 is complete/Croatia enters Schengen, then Croatia really will have to do something about the tolling there.

jam? no, not enough traffic there for jams.

I imagine you've never been silly enough to drive there on a summer Saturday :P

Having said this, does the A4 extension mean that Gruskovje MMP will only be open to those with a vignette?

I don't think so, as you can already use the I-SLO border crossings of Vrtojba, Fernetti and Skofije without vignette, as long as you turn right just after the border and don't continue on H4, A3 or H5. If I'm not mistaken, also the Karavanken tunnel is vignette-free, as long you don't use the motorway, but I'm not sure about this one since I never had to use it.

More self-service tolling could evade the jams. There is one just South of Zagreb.

On the other hand, you need a vignette for A1 (A), A2 (HR) and A5 (H) at the border.

nobody knows that actually. the situation is that entering SLO you will hardly find check till the first exit, or at least first service area. I often buy vignette at service area Mokrice, so 500 m after entering Slovenian teritory, never had problems. on the other hand, I have seen vignette check at border crossing itself while exiting SLO many times, and i am 100% sure that is would be impossible to explain them that you have entered the motorway at the last exit before the border (Obrežje).

They should be selling vignettes at the border crossing Obrežje. It's beyond me how anyone can drive without a vignette past a policeman and even talk to him.

they sell it there, but you cannot stop your car before police check anyway. but i appreciate the fact that there is more or less free ride to the first service area. (there is large sign for vignette sales point at that service area just after the border)

however, when i don't forget, i buy it in my hometown at Petrol station. the price is the same.
