And that "POVEZUJEMO SLOVENIJO" (we're connecting Slovenia) is quite childish too, I mean what does love have to do with anything here? You can only find such tacky slogans on US license plates.

I still hope there'll be a weekly vignette, cause the proposed prices are outrageous. In any case, I'm not planning to buy it for my once-a-year trip to Rijeka.

Question: whats the point of sticking it on the windshield,if you must stick it onto the the side of a motorcycle...why cant you stick it on the side of the car too?

No, except for that short tunnel and motorway U/C. But if you'll return after 1st July, you won't have to go through Ljubljana any more... oh, and you'll need a sticker.

^ Well, not through the city itself, as the last bypass will have been finished.

Actually from this weekend one half of remaining motorway section between Novo mesto and border is now finished and opened for traffic. Full motorway (about 7 km) will be completed until end of June. Also all remaining sections are under construction now.

About Ljubljana bypass ... I heard some stories again about delayed opening. I hope they are stories only.

Attracting Slovenians Onto the Highways

Slovenia to introduce motorway stickers for cars in July

LJUBLJANA, March 20, 2008 (AFP) - Slovenia decided Thursday to introduce motorway stickers for cars and motor bikes from July hoping to stimulate the use of highways and simplify travelling in the Alpine state bordering Austria, Croatia, Hungary and Italy.

"With this (measure) we hope to attract the largest possible number of citizens to use highways rather than local roads," Transport Minister Radovan Zerjav told a news conference.

Trucks and lorries will continue to pay highway tolls until August 2009 when the government hopes to establish a satellite toll system.

Slovenia, a former Yugoslav republic that joined the European Union in 2004, continues to extend its national highway network and the use of highways is currently being paid at toll booths throughout the country.

Zerjav said that the government was planning to introduce stickers for six and 12 months that will cost 35 and 55 euros respectively.

"Revenues from these fees will be a little higher than the current ones," Zerjav said adding that the state expected some 20 million euros of revenues from the motorway sticker system.

Frequent highway travellers will benefit from the introduction of motorway stickers while tourists, who currently pay up to 10 euros to cross Slovenia on their way from northern Europe to Greece or the Croatian coast, will have to pay the six-month fee from July.

Having to pay for six months when you only want to cross the country for two hours sucks. Tourists might start to use the local roads rather then the highways.

why a new thread?

"slovenian highways" isn't appropriate?
http://www.skyscrapercity.com/showthread.php?t=451101

this system is similar to the swiss vignette.
(but there is no half year sticker only one year sticker)

So it is good for locals, but bad for tourists...
