Expressway Austrian border-Dravograd-Velenje-Celje-Sevnica-Novo mesto-Metlika-Croatian border (with additional branches). This one will see many tunnels and viaducts.

And next is also widening of existing motorways, first some parts of Ljubljana ring and later some parts of A1 and maybe A2, beginning from Ljubljana.

Actually A1 ends by Koper, it doesn't go to any border, that will be a 4-lane expressway, probably H6. There's also H4 to finish (actually just lights are missing in tunnels so they are thinking of opening it anyway, like unlit tunnels in Italy ), H5, and then it's time for an expressway from Austria to Croatia (Dravograd/Ravne - Slovenj Gradec - Velenje - Celje - Novo mesto - Metlika - (Bosiljevo/Karlovac)).

EDIT: yeah, anyway...

A few old pictures from various books I have at home.

Motorway Vrhnika (Ljubljana) - Postojna, opened in 1972:

The same motorway:

Two-lane expressway Ljubljana - Zagreb, opened shortly after 1958:

The same expressway, this part was obviously paved with cobble stones.

^ When I first saw that picture, I was surprised, because I never saw cobble stones on this road, even when I was small.

uf, 5-10 years is close future

and, frankly, i can remember 0 (written: zero) motorways/expressways leading to Croatia. oh, sorry, i can remember one - A2 connecting Novo Mesto (not and Ljubljana) with Croatia. these u/c are not worth to consider about because they are being built with snail's speed, just as that A2. it has been extended as much as it could be, it has reached maximum of extensions now so it's about to be finnished in 2009. or they are fooling us again?

Those connections with Croatia are not important for Slovenia so there is no reason to build them faster!

I read something about the ANWB stating vans (like my Renault Kangoo) are only allowed to drive 80 km/h in Slovenia. Is that true? I can hardly believe that, but the article we're talking about is not very clear on it.

Same in Croatia - they have 80 km/h stickers on back.

Why is that??

Vans have no speed limit. There used to be once, though.

A2 is very important for Slovenia, it should be build as fast as possible (but sadly it is not).

Kangoo definitely doesn't have speed limit. anyway, i'm not sure about cargo versions. i didn't pay attention about it, i'll look around at roads if they have stickers
