Ok I was in Dubai for a visit and I saw this unfinished tower ... Dubai needs not to keep it like that .. hopefully it will be continued or something because it reminds Dubai everyday of its crisis.
I did some googling and saw this article posted a year ago and it seems contractors still didn't lose faith in it and will come back to finish it.

It would be a beautiful addition if they complete it as planed

Cheers

It's not going to get better anytime soon, I have been there before and have friends who have lived there for going on 5 years now. One is very high up on a project and the other is the construction manager. Their project/hotel has been pretty stagnant for the past 2 years and just recently they have been starting to slowly work again.

The issue is the people running it claim they now have money but can only release small portions at a time thus nothing is getting accomplished and what is, is at a snails pace. Project was supposed to be done 100% 2 years ago and is maybe 50%.

As for the Pent I would not be shocked to either see it sit like this or at some point get knocked down.

Thanks for the info man, it is cool to know what's happening and if I may ask you since it seems you are well informed about the situation there about Hard Rock Cafe, I know its off topic but they demolished it, do you have any idea what is going on there? cz I read online that it might be replaced by a high tower?

thank you

Three 80 storey towers have been proposed for that plot.

The fate of this building is as sad as the fate of Paul Bennewitz

Umm, wouldn't make it more sense to just continue the construction from the part on they've already built? lol

You're right. Even if they would not build it to its full height it would still be economical suicide to raze it and then build something new altogether

Is all about money... probably the "far less prestigious" buildings have enough customers, while this one... not enough. This building have gigant ~6.000 sq ft luxury apartments. Not easy to find so many potential buyers in this economic crisis.

"Dubai developer to restart work on world’s tallest residential tower
Trident working with DLD on The Pentominium; Work to restart in third quarter

By Parag Deulgaonkar
Published Monday, March 17, 2014

Trident International Holdings, a Dubai-based developer, will be restarting work on 516-metre The Pentominium, billed as the world’s tallest residential tower, by third quarter, Emirates 24|7 can reveal.

“In conjunction with the Dubai Land Department, Trident is actively working on several advanced options towards restarting the construction of this project,” a person aware of the project status, told this website.

“Considering the iconic size and nature of the project, we anticipate resumption by the third quarter of 2014,” he added.

The tower, located in Dubai Marina, was scheduled for completion in 2013, but work was suspended in August 2011 following the global financial crisis and customer default.

When completed, the residential tower will have 122 floors above ground and house 172 luxury penthouses designed by Italian fashion designer Salvatore Ferragamo.

In 2009, Arabian Construction Company was awarded a Dh1.46 billion contract for construction of the tower.

Construction commenced on July 26, 2009, and, before construction stopped, at least 30 floors had been completed.

When completed, Pentominium will become the second tallest building in Dubai after 828-metre Burj Khalifa, the tallest tower in the world.

Dubai already is home to four of the tallest residential towers with the 414-metre Princess Tower in Dubai Marina holding the world record according to the Council on Tall Buildings and Urban Habitat.

The 395-metre 23 Marina is in second place, followed by 381-metre Elite Residence and 337-metre The Torch, Council data reveals."
