Anyone remember the ridiculous spires they planned on attaching to it to "beat" the Chicago Spire? Good ol' times.

There is a thing called money... it makes projects go, or stop

I don't understand how people are shocked by this, to build you have to have demand, and while Dubai is obviously an emerging hub and hot spot it is a metro of 2.8 million people in a country of 9 million (which is something like 80% foreign, a figure that truly shocked me.)

It's trying to be NYC or Hong Kong and it isn't working.

Yes, but population doesn't matter as much with Dubai as with other cities in the West, given it's the link between East and West and the only major city that has any real star power in the middle east.

Yes, but population doesn't matter as much with Dubai as with other cities in the West or any typical city.. It may have a small population, but it's rich as heck in comparison and highly unique geographically. It's the new major transit point of the world too. Geography plays to its advantage. This is not like Amsterdam or something, where population will determine how many buildings will be built. This is pure sex appeal, money and location showing its face here. Dubai obviously hits way above its weight in the skyline department because it is pure business with few nimbies and rich investors flood the market.

I realize that but even considering all of those points you made Dubai as a whole is still a bit over-ambitious. Maybe not by a lot but reality has to kick in at some point.

and reality kicked in for dubai and many many projects stopped along with its most ambitious project nakheel tower, yet it does now recover from that reality-shock and new and some old projects come back now.

BTW, do you really think that a few hundred apartments (though this tower only has 120) really matters in a city of 2.5 millions?

Its infact a major center for the Indian subcontinent and Sub-Saharan Africa too. The UAE economy is more diversified than any other gulf nation.

Well no not really if they were your average house price, but seeing as these apartments are for millionaires, along with other super-rich apartment towers throughout the city and your target audience starts to run dry

Not really, the prices aren't really that expensive. Plus, every global city (London, NYC, HK, Singapore, Dubai etc) is a target for the rich and super rich to own a place, which they'll use temporarily if they're in town for business. Many apartments are holiday homes as well

.... not to mention the majority of them are just rented out.

Dubai is a major financial city, not a large residential town. Everything in Dubai is built to attract foreign investment. Dubai is much different from other cities, so conventional logic doesn't apply here.

Right, and you have to build but if you overdo it there will be consequences. That's all I'm saying.

Back to this tower! So they will resume its construction on the third quarter of this year it means in the best scenario after one month from now! but my question is does it need a prep time before restarting? giving the long duration this tower was dormant? cz if so I believe we might see activity even earlier than anticipated!

No way we would see any activities earlier. Even the sourse presumed it would restart around the end of the year, and giving the optimism, but also the time needed to solve the details, and than mobilize the contractor,I don't honestly expect any movement here in 2014, or in the early months of 2015 for that matter.

Though, I would love to be proven wrong
