So it's still going to be tallest residential when completed(2017ish?)? Any other contenders?

It's time this one goes to Supertalls section .... There is many towers in supertalls for reasons lower and less important that this!

Not yet. We have no clear evidence they are preparing a restart, in worst case they just remove stuff...

Fantastic news! I'll bet its neighbors will appreciate not having to look at a half completed hulk anymore. Even if it does block some of their views when it's finished.

It will be very close:

Pentominium:

Occupied height: 1,538ft / 469m
Parapet height: 1,693ft / 516m
Floors: 122

Nordstrom:

Occupied height: 1,490ft / 454m
Parapet height: ~ 1,550ft / 472m
Spire height: 1,775ft / 541m
Floors: 92

Pentominium has a whopping 30 floors more than Nordstrom!!

Ah so I had no idea Nordstrom Tower was a residential-only project Time for Pentominium to revive the spire design and reach for 618 meters

I'm carefuly optimistic here. It would be great to see the tower completed, but we should also remember that the plot of land probably is worth a lot of money on its own too. If the Pentominium project is unfeasible or not economical, it might be deemed a better financial decision to just tear down what's built, and resell the land to somebody else.

It's not, there's the Nordstrom store at the base of course. But according to CTBUH rules Nordtrom is still classified as "residential", since more than 85% of the total space is residential.

I am very optimistic that this is restarting! apart from the recent pics and updates we had, they did release to the press that this tower will be restarting in the 3rd quarter of this year!
Plus it is Dubai! Just compare the amount of towers in proposed section to the under construction ones and you will get what I am saying!

Very true! Dubai is going through another massive boom. So it is very believable that it is indeed restarting. However, I won't get to excited till it starts rising again,

It has been there some considerable time

And the timing almost matches the announcement from earlier this year, that they'd restart construction in Q3 2014. I agree that the erection of a crane at this spot indicates a removal of existing equipment like the climbing formwork or even the crane, but if it's just for the sake of saving renting costs they had done that 3 years ago. Because of that I'm seeing a fair chance for a restart

Btw. @BRAMBLE are you reading this? Do you know any details? Can you confirm or blast our hopes?

Apparently the Contractor is removing the original crane to use elsewhere.
The replacement crane is a different type

It will be some time before the project restarts

That's because Nordstrom is cheating with its spire like many other NYC skyscrapers...
