No, it's because New York residential skyscrapers have an absurd ceiling height. Look at the occupied height figures.

Pentominium:
Occupied height: 1,538ft / 469m - 122 floors

Nordstrom:
Occupied height: 1,490ft / 454m - 92 floors

Also, Nordstrom is an exemption. Residential supertalls in NYC usually don't have a spire. Dubai ist the one which has those crows / spires sticked on residential buildings. Only one building so far in Dubai has an occupied height of >400m: The Burj Khalifa.

Thanks! Not exactly what we were hoping to hear, but ok, let's see what the future brings...

There's no such thing. If the spire is an integral part of the architectural design, it's legit.

Not only that, but I just can't stand it when people say New York is the only one with spires. They tend to forget that a. other cities have their "cheaters" as well and b. New York has lots buildings with a solid roof, especially when it comes to residential buildings.

Just look up CTBUH.

Didn't you read BRAMBLE's post? Seems we have to wait a little longer...

I suspected so when I saw the new crane's base setup over the floor slab.

oh man, so the people we saw on the site were there just to remove a crane for a different project, not work on this project? well that sucks thought this project was set to restart in September already and now we have to wait even longer it seems.

They are removing the current crane to replace it with a different one. Refer to Brambles post on the previous page.

they take the crane to use it on another project. that they plan to use a different crane on this one however does not mean that there are immediate plans to continue the pentominium. only if that replacement crane is really also scheduled to be added soon to restart the project.

That's true. The timing of it all seems to suggest a restart though. Guess we will find out soon enough.

That crane has sat idle for +3 years and needs serious servicing. Most likely the main contractor is bringing in a new crane.

If Bramble says the restart is very far away, I tend to believe it.

The crane is being removed, not replaced. You don't replace a crane, you maintain it.

I'm afraid I have to agree with AltinD. The only reason to put a crane on that floor would be to remove the taller crane.
