The only reason I "bump" threats with my pics of on hold projects is because I think that someone in the forum might catch something about the construction or the activity on site I didn't see and would be of a great interest to us all.

Have they stopped construction on the site? I've left Dubai for a while and about 10 months later the tower looks exactly the same as it did last summer, I wonder what happened.. Also, (a little unrelated) the Marina101 seems to be getting its finishing touches now, which is great considering how it's seen little progress in the past 3-4 years!

Isn't this on hold since 2011 or so?

1.5 years ago Trident announced construction would restart in late 2014... Nothing happened unfortunately.

Didn't some guy on the UAE forum said that the Authorities have cancelled this project and confiscated it until they find a buyer who can continue something there, as it happened with some other towers?

Some guy from Hong Kong but of Arab or Indian Subcontinent origin that is believed to be in Switzerland now, or at least the last time we heard from him, saying he was there to secure financing to resume work.

They (Trident Holding) have built three other towers in the area.

How many unfinished projects like this currently sit empty in Dubai?

Meaning? 3 unfinished but 2 are almost finished?

Edit: And after clarifying that, how many were in construction purgatory since the global market crash?

^To my knowledge, a few projects halted a little after the market crash, but only a few Superalls were put completely on hold, and quite many progressed as planned and were completed without any notable slowdowns.

If my memory is correct, notable affected towers were Marina 101 (has since been restarted and is now close to completion), the Pentominium (currently serving as a monument to the crisis), and that one butt-ugly tower along the motorway (Elite Residence?) which has seen steady, but snail-paced progress.

There's also the Dubai Pearl and Nakheel Tower, which got to advanced stages of planning and even preparation, I believe, but were put on indefinite hold.

Yet again, though, a whole slew of other towers did make it perfectly fine through the financial crisis, so the situation is not as gloomy as the Pentominium's current state might suggest.

Positive news: Dubai Sees Stalled Projects Revived
http://www.businessweekme.com/Bloomb...ojects-Revived

In this article, the assistant director general and head of Investment Management and Promotion Center, the investment arm of Dubai Land Department says concerning the pentominium that it is one of the projects in their portfolio and they are working with a serious developer who is interested to take over the project and If the negotiations go well, building work could even begin again next year, she says.

So the Pentominium might restart construction after more than 4 years of inactivity? Sweet!

We actually heard of this a couple of months back .... plus, even if the negotiations will be successful, it will take a long time before any work starts.

For the supertalls that were stopped and then resumed; were they completed to the proposed height? Is there a chance this one could be reduced? I'm not up to date with the current economic or political stance of Dubai, so I don't want to sound ignorant.

thanks!
