Or simply add two more floors. But the Pentominium could retaliate with an extendable pinnacle. One moment 618m the next ? Take that CS

Wont happen, Dino. In USA there is 2000ft height restriction, so Chichago Spire is not going any higher. As of now, it looks like Pentominium will be build first if not stopped by global crisis

Then they can simply leave the spire lifting equipment there and every time when some other building become taller then Pentominium, they just lift the spire a few meters up and become the tallest again...

Dino it's really great how you bring things into relation....... to compare the height limit with a forbidding of speach is a bit exxagerated.

i think hes just showing the irony that in the land of the free you cant build a tower to your desired height. even though the limit has not been really challenged.

The Federal Aviation Administration can grant a waiver of the 2,000ft height, but proving that a waiver is in the publics interest will be difficult. Perhaps they could put a structurally covered DTV antennae up there.

now "antenas" and "part of the structure" don't go well together, do they?

That would make it worse...if it's an antenna above 2000 feet, then a waver is required from the FAA AND the FCC.

after sept. 11, the FAA is not gonna waive the height limit for anyone.
the fear of a terrorists attack on a tall building will trump all height increase proposal. for the foreseeable future.

4/5?
Well from that list it's 3/5 right now and will probably be 2/5 soon enough (if this tower goes on hold which it probably will). Also who knows how far they'll get with the Shanghai Tower? I recon about 30 to 40% chance of that being built.

Only 2 of those will really get built, the BD and Shanghai Tower. That is it. The other 3 will be on hold or never be built.

Over 70% of the residential penthouses in this building have already sold. This one is going up!
