I’m also glad to meet you here. According to the new minister of Public Works of Spain, finishing Cantabrian Highway and Mediterranean Highway between Málaga and Almería is one of the most urgent tasks of her department, notwithstanding the recession. If Spanish Government keeps this promise, I hope these sections will be opened in a few years.

SkyscraperCity system doesn't allow me to use the word "f r e e w a y", why?

You are fortunate. I have to use toll motorways.

So AP-7 has now 257 km of at least 2x3 section from La Jonquera to Salou, except 2 short stretches in Mollet and El Papiol Interchanges. This is perhaps de longest 2x3 motorway in Spain.

Free is a common word in spam, maybe it is blocked until you reach an amount of posts and the system thinks that you are not longer a "threat" :P

Freeway. I can write it. Anyway I prefer the term Motorway, it sounds more... European.

And some more great news. Finally, after 11 years of works, on Thursday July 5th the new N-260 road between Fiscal and Sabiñánigo* will (finally) OPEN!!!

* Try to write this name correctly . Hint: Alt Gr+4, then N.

~ is only Alt Gr+4 in the Spanish keyboard layout :P

There are some layouts with a specific key for ~... and most, but not all of them allow to write ñ (and also ã and õ) pressing the key or combination of keys for ~ and later n, a or o.

For example in the US layout, ~ is in the upper left corner under the "Esc" key and you have to press shift (like in the Spanish keyboard for writting ª).

:P

It is indeed. La Jonquera-Mollet alone may already be the longest one.

So how many km of A8 is still missing? Is it all under construction? When are they planning to finish it?

According to Spanish wikipedia, a total of 81,9 km. All of them are in various stages of construction, although the pace of the works is very slow, and in stretches Solares-La Encina and La Encina-Torrelavega there are no works at all. Official inauguration dates may thus change.

In Galicia is still an stretch under construction, in Mondoñedo. This one had a lot of delays due to ground problems. I think that until the end of 2013 or 2014 it won't be opened.

At the map there is a short open stretch missing. North Mondoñedo, the one that appears under construction that is over the national road, opened a few weeks ago.

Some more news:

The new A-7 in San Pedro de Alcántara, near Marbella, has been opened today: http://www.diariosur.es/v/20120626/m...-20120626.html

Some pictures of the works taken in October 2011: http://www.skyscrapercity.com/showpo...postcount=2661

The works on the main carriageways of the A-1 will be finished this week (refurbishment from Burgos to Santo Tomé del Puerto, right before entering Madrid region). There are still some minor works to be done, especially on the junctions, but at least the summer traffic going to Southern Spain won't be affected.

Also, a 10-km stretch of the A-12 has been opened. It's the bypass of Santo Domingo de la Calzada: http://goo.gl/maps/p9OS

Did A-12 open all the way from Nájera-Oeste to Grañón?

Nope, the stretch from Nájera-Oeste to Santo Domingo is still not finished. It was being built by Begar, a company that went bankrupt 3 ago. The works were awarded to a different company but there is still a lot of delay.

Yep, there has not been any official opening AFAIK (there are some minor details pending, according to that newspaper). I've been told today, by a friend, that it was already open

Yeah Fomento has a radio silence about it.

It appears that S-30 may also open soon? Ana Pastor checked the works out.

About time.

This sort of offsets the reduction of the speed limit from 100 to 80 km/h in A-7 through Costa del Sol .

Which sector was affected and since when?

Stretch Fuengirola-Estepona, since July 2011. As of today, several towns affected by this measure have asked Ministerio de Fomento to restore the old 100 km/h speed limit.

This motorway has no shoulders and many interchanges don't have acceleration lanes at all; some streets even meet the roadway with a "stop" sign. 100 km/h seemed fine though, mainly because the most dangerous stretches were already limited to 80 km/h.

I tend to approach conspiracy theories with caution, but there is a toll motorway (120 km/h) parallel to A-7 in which traffic has slowed down noticeably because of recession. Some years ago I read an article in a US magazine that talked about abusive clauses in contracts with toll motorway operators involving speed limit reductions and downgrading in existing toll-free roads.
