EDIT:

Those are all calculated, possibly shortly under the wrong name, but the distances are right.

Regarding A52; that's just a little more above. I guess the code didn't make it completely alphabetic.

Total length stays at 12.964km.

Yeah, but it's quite unknown compared to Madrid, Sevilla, Granada, Catalunya, and the southern and eastern costa's.

i also think that Cantabria is great and i think that the problem in its quite unknowness is nearless of Euskadi which is more famous at this area and more people are willing to visit Euskadi rather than Cantabria at northern coast.

This was now quite unusual for Spain.

And usually forgotten in terms of infraestructure. It's the only coastal region not directly linked with Madrid by motorway. Fortunately it will be solved when we finish A-67 (which has some breathless viaducts).

In general, the money required to build a motorway in the North (Galicia, Asturias, Cantabria, Basque Country) is far bigger than in the rest of Spain due to the orography.

Yeah, the ride to Santiago de Compostela and A Coruña used to be a very long one, ten years ago, Now the A8 is keeping expanding to the west.

The A66 is also very spectacular, i hope to drive that motorway once. The A66 connects Gijón/Oviedo and León, and is one of the highest motorways in Europe.

Talking about motorways, what is the highest point reached by autovía? The A92 in the Sierra Nevada goes quite high, higher than the Alpine motorways.

Yeah, but it has suffered many delays. In 2009 almost all the journey between France and A Coruña could be done through A8, but there have been problems in some strechs which may delay the end of the works to 2011 or 2012.

To note the orography of the region, the strech between Llanes and Unquera will cost 230 M€ for 22 km and the one between Muros- Las Dueñas 110M€ for 8km. They are the two most delayed streches in Asturias.

The most spectacular strech is the tolled AP66 between Campomanes and León. Between Gijón and Oviedo it's an old concrete autovía extremely dense. When be finished, A66 will connect Gijón and Seville being one of the longest motorways (if not the longest).

Mmm... now I'm curious but A92 is a good contestant. I only know that the highest road in Spain is the one to the top of Veleta peak (3,350m), likely the highest in Europe.

A-1 at Somosierra reaches 1404 m.a.s.l.

A-92 near Granada at "puerto de la Mora" goes near 1300 masl more or less

I think probably those highways are the highest of western europe

Not the whole, but about 65-70% of Spain is a plateau (Meseta).
