Speaking of Catalonia, it looks like a group of brand-new E63 AMG S 4-Matic vehicles that were part of the media test drive were impounded by Spanish police.

http://carscoop.blogspot.com/2013/02...cedes-e63.html

It says that 18 american motoring journalists were brought in for questioning NOT because they broke any laws.............but because they didn't have any International Driving License.

I presumed they thought that a US driving license would suffice......but I guess not.

So yeah, to any foreign tourist driver, yeah make sure you have an IDL with you always just to be safe =)

First of all... except inside towns and cities (where local policemen apply), in Catalonia any traffic issue will be managed by Catalonian police, not Spanish police

The real problem is that since some years ago, driving without a valid licence is not a fault but a crime!!!! according with Spanish laws. This includes driving before you have got your driving licence (even if you are on practices), loosing all your points in your licence, having it expired (yeah, you can have been the best driver but take care if it is going to expire... you will have to ask for the new one or you are absolutely without it), and that stuff.

In this case, having a foreing licence, it seems that Catalonian police just checked they were all right.

By the way... even though you have a foreing licence, you must be older than 18 to drive. No licences are accepted if you are younger.

Ah I see I see.

Thanks for clarifying some of the things up. =)

With that said:
It appears that Mercedes Benz came to the rescue to free those 18 or so American auto journalists.

The six E63 AMG vehicles though will continue to be impounded for an indefinite period of time.

Rather than "indefinite period of time" if they had a fine it would be "until the fine will be payed".

If it is a crime (a less-18years driver for instance) the car is considered an evidence of the crime and can be kept not by the police in fact but by the judge (it will be the police who will keep it but as a judge requeriment)

My newest video. It's the second part of the last one. This kind of roads (single-carriageway, grade-separated expressways) are quite common in some parts of Spain. This Spring they will get their speed limit cut from 100 to 90 km/h.

What was the first highway link completed between Spain and Portugal? Sevilla - Faro?

I really do not know. As far as I know, Badajoz-Elvas and Sevilla-Faro were built in 1992 (and I think Vigo-Porto too), but not sure. Let me ask.

The Puente Internacional del Guadiana (A22 / A-49) opened in 1991. A-6 Badajoz - Portugal opened in 1992. I don't know when A-55 at Tui opened to traffic.

The bridge between Valença do Minho and Tuy was opened in 1998.

First one is out of date. It was related about a 1x1 road with special characteristics but nowadays doesn't exist

Yes, they just have to replace the signs. Looks like the first picture is from one of the stretches of N-344 built to vía rápida standards, whilst the last one is further north, where the road is an ordinary 1+1 carretera convencional with no grade separation and/or access restriction.

A-8 Muros de Nalón - Las Dueñas will open "18 or 20 March".

In fact, the green guide sign complies with the requirements of a quite old code: the draft document of the 8.1 IC Traffic Signing Standards, issued in 1990. According to the definitive version of this code, approved in 1999, guide signs placed on “vias rapidas” should be white coloured and contain black inscriptions. These inscriptions should be formed of lower-case letters, except the first letter of place names.

Although the concept “via rapida” was refused in 2003, green signs are still being placed on roads type VG-X.X and C.G-XX in Galicia.

Regards.

There are some details about the piece which has been replaced in the bridge that spans Contreras reservoir on A-3.

(c) Levante. El Mercantil Valenciano

Rust has attacked the bottom chord of the truss.

It's a bit frightening, isn't it?

The structure will be checked thoroughly before opening the highway again.
