While the most kilometers were driven on those motorways.

Motorways are much safer than ordinary highways, despite the higher speed limits.

From 2008-2011 Estonia will invest almost 80 million Euros for the improvement of traffic safety, which is quite a lot for a country this small.
Is that money on educating people how to drive too? Speed cameras aren't going to make bad drivers any better.

Orography is an important issue. Netherland is the flatest country in Europe. Spain is the second mountainous country in Europe.

I'm pretty sure only fery few drivers loose control of their car while driving at the speed limit. Problem is that people go over the speed limit...and that's where the speed cameras will help a lot.

You can't attribute all car crashes to the quality of the roads; you need to check also the attitude to alchol of the population, the driving manners, the controls, and so on...

BTW, datas from the last table are outdated. For instance, the number of diesel cars in Italy has increased dramatically in the last years...

Speeding probably isn't a problem on a motorway, but most of the roads in Estonia are narrow windy 2-lane roads. You also have to consider that traffic culture is very young in Estonia. Even 15 years ago few people could afford a car.

Videos of the accident, the visibility seems better than when the accident happened...
It's incredible but there was 0 deads on this accident (3 people highly injured but out of danger).

Elections are close so it is time for opening new motorway streches

Three days ago, 26.5 new kilometers in A-66 were opened, but the biggest news happened yesterday when Molledo-Pesquera in A-67 started its service. With 12 km. and 200 M€ it is the most expensive of the Spanish network. It has 5 viaducts, being Montalbiz the most stunning (721 m. length and 129 m. height, the sixth highest in Europe).

Some pics by Carabaza and Alsajano taken in 29th and 30th Jan:

Wonderful motorway, it looks great and I'd love to drive there!

Looking at that orography, I'm not surprised it has been so expensive!

Impressive ! Spain highways are the most nice-looking among all european thatI've seen. I think its due to Spain's latest transpformation from relatively undedeveloped into a modern country recently - which explains why everything looks brand new . Speed limit only 100 km/h ? With such broad lanes they should be at least 140 km/h

It's generically 120km/h. This stretch has 100km/h limits on some sharper curves, du to the difficult orography.

Yeah, Barcelona has done a pretty good job on their motorways ensuring the city's atmosphere will not be destroyed. The B-10 (southern beltway) is a good example too.
