Some darn cool pix there, Skylandman!

Btw, Chris, I've noticed the title is slightly wrongly written: "autovía" has somewhat different "i".

Hehe. I have driven that stretch hundreds of times and of course it's a blue sign.

That brown colour is just a filter applied to the photo.

P.S. Your new location is really nice

Ohh thanks

Unfortunately, the drought is spoiling the landscape

@Chriszwolle, if you are planning a "Sun&Beach" travel, indeed, it's best from late May (better from June) until late September (other option is going to the Canary Islands with 20ºC all the year) but if you are planning a cultural travel to the center/south of the peninsula, it's better in Spring and Autumn (the center and south's Summer can be overwhelming because the hot over 40ºC in the shadows).

I personaly recommend you, if it's your 1st visit, going to Barcelona 2 or 3 days, then you can use the new High Speed Train (AVE) to get Madrid in 2h 38m staying there for one week and doing one day visits to near cities like Toledo (25 mins in AVE for 9€ x2, I recommend you don't forget Toledo in your travel), Segovia (30 mins in AVE for 8.20 to 9€ x2), maybe Guadalajara (20 mins in AVE, but the station is a bit far away, you can go in Cercanías [http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cercan%C3%ADas_Madrid] and visit Alcalá de Henares and Guadalajara the same day, they are on the same cercanías' line), Alcalá de Henares (as I said before), and Aranjuez (only with Cercanías trains), after visiting Madrid you can end your travel visiting Seville (2h 30m whith AVE).

Sorry my mistake. Someone tagged it as "A6 Spain" on Flickr and i didn´t pay attention to the police car on it. It´s already edited. Thanks

In exchange i´ll add a couple of shots of its real spanish counterpart:

I have done some investigation, in do not want beaches, because i have already seen Barcelona, the Costa Brava & Costa Daurada, as well as the Pyrenees, so i want to do the center of the country by driving around in my car. I'm not sure if i want to do campings or cheap hotels. Any good recommendations for getting around with cheap hotels? (like is there some kind of guide available?) Obviously, i do not want to pay € 100 per night. I guess it's cheaper in the smaller towns and villages.

For 100€/night you would sleep in 4/5 star hotels

I would suggest two options:
* 2/3 star hotels: easy to find around 40/50€ per night
* hostels: around 20/30€ per night.

The difference between smaller towns or cities is not too big since interior Spain is not that tourism-oriented like the coastline. It's quite easy to find 20€ nice hostels in the Madrid city center for instance.

There lot of webs about these, but I don't know reliable guides. In Spanish, I tend to check Atrapalo for hotels and Infohostal for hostels. In English there are lots of webs just searching in Google. I try to avoid places without a website because their facilities tend to be too old.

About interior towns worth for a visit besides the well-known Seville and Madrid, Toledo and Salamanca are a must. Avila, Segovia, Cuenca, Cordoba and Granada are really nice as well.

I think camping may be even cheaper, like 10 - 20 euro's per night.
