This thread is very old, and was probably posted before Highways & Autobahns even existed. Merging them now wouldn't make sense.

Are there any tolls on the outer Madrid rings (M-40, M-45, M-50)?

Only the R-2, R-3, R-4, R-5 and a part of AP-6 are tolled But those are radial freeways with a free alternative next to it (except AP-6).

Yeah, I checked Google Maps and toll barriers are nowhere to be found. As Monty Burns would say: Excellent.

Looking forward to drive through both the old N-I in the Basque country where the carriageway goes in the opposite direction, through Despeñaperros on the A-4 and on the brand new part of the A-45 between Cordoba and Antequera.

I heard that they were reconstructing the A4 near Santa Elena.

They got some heavy twists and turns over there, and I am very pleased that they're fixing that piece of the autoviá.
Does anyone here knows when it's going to be completed?

A new type of rondabouts: The "turboglorieta". The first one in Spain is being built in Grado, Asturias.

Interesting. Do you know similar things in your country?

If one of those were placed in Virginia, that would probably result in a lot of accidents at nearby intersections as people avoid an intersection that blows their mind. I took the classroom portion of driver's education last year, and not once in the entire class, or in the entire textbook, was the word "roundabout" mentioned, and one of this new kind would require someone to stop and think about it before they think about what to do, which would probably cause a traffic jam as people wonder what the hell they just drove into.

No, roundabouts are not common around here.

Well, why educate about something that doesn't exist nearby? Roundabouts are a pretty new concept in the US. I didn't learn how to drive on a 10 lane freeway either.

We also have one turbo roundabout here, but I haven't driven through it yet.

What's the point of saying that in a thread about motorways? Are you trying to say we have destroyed our forests to build motorways?

Actually the forests cover 57% of Spain (4th largest percentage in the EU) and this area has grown at a 2% annual rate during the last 15 years.

It's planed to open the gap on 3 days.
