Carretera Nacional N-630 north of Sevilla.

As you can see in this video, nobody uses this road anymore since the parallel A-66 has been completed. But note the well-designed road layout. In the Netherlands, we can only dream of such N-roads.

CM-45 Ciudad Real - Valdepeñas

Some 28 kilometer of Autovía opened on September 15th, between Ciudad Real and Granatula de Calatrava in south central Spain. It is noted as CM-44 and CM-412 on Google Earth.

Are any project maps of CM-41 and the new CM-45 available on the web?

Is the completion schedule known for any of the CM-41 sections?

Hello,

Taskila asks what is the best way to traverse Spain from north to south until Algeciras. he travels usually via Madrid then via Despeñaperros and Granada or Cordoba. It's better for you to take the A66 bypassing Madrid? Is the A66 complete?

Yes, A-66 is completed south of Salamanca, and is actually the shortest route from Western France to Algeciras.

Hello Taskila,

I would suggest:

A1 from Hendaye-Irun to Burgos
A62 from Burgos to Salamanca
A66 from Salamanca to Sevilla
A4 from Sevilla to Jerez
A381 from Jerez to Algeciras

Fantastic trip. 100% highway or motorway. And very new.

By making like this you avoid Madrid and the overcrowed areas surround, although perhaps it is probably a bit longer?

If you follow this route please share your experience,

Sorry I'm not able to translate it to french.....

If you can, spare some time in San Sebastian, Burgos Cathedral, Salamanca and Sevillla. Definitely they're worth the visit....

If you don't have so much time at least dedicate some hours to visit the Sevilla centre. It's a must. One of the most original places in world....And in my opinion one of the three cities you have to visit in Spain (along with Madrid and Barcelona).

Have a nice trip...

Besides, it is shortest way:
Irun-Algeciras (through Salamanca) 1118.5 Km
Irun-Algeciras (through Madrid) 1168.5 Km

The works seems very fast and advanced when seen driving by A-42

Works on the A-1, province of Burgos. The highway is being refurbished to modern standards.

The entire stretch from Burgos to the border with the Community of Madrid (159 km) is being refurbished. The same happens in the A-2 between Guadalajara and Zaragoza (240 km).

I bring some news.

The rules for horizontal signalization (road marks) have changed in Spain. These are the main changes:

-Lane lines will be wider and longer in roads with V>50 km/h

"Vano" is the separation between lines.

The proportion of surface painted in the axis of the autovías and autopistas will be one of the highest in Europe:

Taking the whole autovía/autopista we will be still far from Germany, Denmark and Belgium:

-Another important change: The lines separating the right lane and the shoulder will be solid on autovías/autopistas. Formerly dashed lines were used:

But now:

You can see the difference between old (Google Street View) and new (YouTube video):

-The arrows have also changed on autovías/autopistas:

(Note that the shoulder line in the second picture is still the old one)

Old and new:

-I have never seen these markings:

That's near Teruel, exactly 250 kilometers before my hometown (Exit 360 for city centre...)
If the Catalan signage goes nationwide, I would like that more. Catalan forumers say that is better.

The vertical signage will also change:

-The typography used for the normal roads will be used for both autovías/autopistas and normal roads (so the typograhy used nowadays in autovías/autopistas will disappear).

-The letters will be bigger and the signs will be placed at a higher position.

-The box with the European route number will be placed outside the sign.

-New pictograms and new kinds of signs have been added:

-Also, it gives instructions to help when you have to put a lot of road numbers/destinations in the same sign (finally we will get rid of those messy signs!)

Although it has not been approved yet, the programs used to design signage have already included those changes.
