I hope it will open next year & not delayed again. I frequent Doha-Dubai trip & Doha- Dubai- BWN. Its very tiring to use the airport bus from the aircraft to the terminal and I pity some passenger thinking the transit terminal is the arrival terminal. Some bus do not announced on its speakers.

Yesterday I was at the arrival terminal picking up someone & notice the parking area has a new steel structure temporarily double storey parking oO.

I must say the airport looks pretty amazing and understand why QR haven't moved in & all the delays.

yes, Doha metro project took part of the parking space, which force them to build temporarily double storey parking

shopping is always open but it is terrible at the existing airport as is the food and drink offering. The existing airport, in short, is terrible.

Doha airport starts cargo services

Qatar’s much-delayed new airport has announced the arrival of its first cargo shipment, as reports suggest passenger operations at the $15.5bn facility could begin next month.
Qatar Airways said on Tuesday that a shipment for Qatar Petroleum was transferred from Europe to Doha at the new Hamad International Airport on December 1.
“Today marks a historic moment not just for Hamad International Airport but also for Qatar Airways Cargo,” a Qatar Airways spokesperson said in a statement.
“The cargo terminal complex at HIA will play a significant role in expanding our global cargo business and propels Doha as the preferred cargo hub in the region, as a result of its sophisticated cargo infrastructure and capacity.”

The airport looks fantastic and kids will really enjoy it, but OMG, that bear cost $6.8 million!!! Couldn't they just have put a nice fountain, garden or something there for a tenth of the cost?!

The same is true for DXB.
Shopping - sure, everything is open.
Getting some water or soda to dring - hard to find.

I've been to both and there is a world of difference between DXB and DOH.

Qatar is recently famous for buying many artworks and this is one of them. they r all over the city
this bear was made by a swiss artist. he made only three and this is the biggest and last i think. it is considered an investment by itself btw since artworks usually keep their prices.
It is lent to HIA from the museums authority (and so will be many art works in the airport) some dating back for more than 1000 years.

Some of the art sculptures and statues around the airport look very nice, but most passengers won't think the bear is art. They may look at it and think it looks interesting, but not that special. The fact that there are only 3 in the world will mean very very few passengers will recognize it.

That is the case now, but HIA looks like a much nicer than DXB and looks much more easier to navigate through. For many years QR's biggest problem for passengers has been the awful DOH, which passengers had to connect through. But once this opens, the passenger experience is going to definitely surpass EK and DXB.

they dont have to view it as art, i personally don't.
I think the fact that there are only three is what makes it special and unique.
I used to hate till the last time i went there, i noticed many ppl like to take its pic, its very eye-catching which is what matters i guess.

I see what you mean now, and if passengers are intrigued by it and like it then I think its a good investment then.

Well art is designed to make people speak and talk, and clearly the bear is art given there's already a short conversation here before the airport even opened!

I'm excited to of DOH's opening but am also sad of QR's lounge policies with fellow oneworld members. Any word on QR's lounge arrangements at the new HIA?
