Do you think it's fun to ride a bus after eight or nine hour flight for 30 minutes standing there squezed!

I've heard that it will continue to be used exclusively by the Amiri Air force for a few more years. Eventually the airfield will be shut and whole property will be developed for residential and commercial use.

Yep, it will continue for a few years and then become entirely shut down.

Weld el dafna Can you kindly check the QR Business and First Lounges? Can you also take some new pictures of them? It is said that the Business class lounge will be operational by next week, can you confirm this please? Thanks in advance

There are, but other places have inter-terminal trains which are quicker.. At BOM domestic and when they were in the midst of the new terminal construction, they used buses..

Shut down?? what a waste.. cant they just use it for corporate jets or general aviation.. or even a conventions area...

PS. Hi GF, nice seeing you here too what was your experience of the new terminal?

I want to figure out how to be one of these many people that can afford to sit in the Qatar Airways lounges. Qatar Airways seems like an expensive airline to fly whenever I do a flight search.

I guess the business model of Qatar Airways focuses on transfer flights between Asia and Europe/North Africa/Americas, it almost always offer the lowest fare for routes connecting Europe and the far East. Like ~800USD inc. tax round trip for Economy Class compared with ~1000-1200USD for traditional European airlines. Same with Qatar's chief competitor Emirates. Don't know whether it offers same attractive pricing fr North American routes though.

The problem with Qatar is that most of the time they will show a high fare (in North America) and then will one day suddenly announce a 3 day sale when the fares drop rock-bottom....Emirates on the other hand will keep their fares lower and the fluctuation is minimal when they announce a sale.

This year (Jan-Feb) on my trip "across 7 seas and the Atlantic" I waited for 3 months for Qatar to drop their price knowing very well that their price will come significantly down....Emirates had an off-peak season fare of slightly less than $1200. Qatar's was $1350. When Emirates announced their sale they brought it to around $1070 (that included a 2% discount code on deals2buy). I bought the Emirates ticket (c'mon I have work and a life, am not an internet junkie, with time at hand to keep checking and waiting....)

Once Emirates' sale was up exactly the next day Qatar brought their fares down to $1020 (minus any coupons from the previous day fare of $1350)...

Now the reason I have to mention this is because my wife was leaving a week before me from Houston and the Emirates check-in line was a mile long while Qatar's staff was sitting there and smiling (I saw maybe 5 people check-in on that side)...Both flights leave Houston within just 50 minute gap of each other!!

When its off-peak season people see that the fares are reasonable and get the lower one...the three day sale only works for people booking during summer or winter vacation time!! (also no offence, but Emirates has a brand image in the US that is superior to Qatar, so when people see the lower fare on Emirates, they just book that...I personally prefer Qatar though, because they have wider seats custom-made for a wide person like me and for the faster connections at Doha)

The same thing happened when they introduced their flights first time to Houston...I buy my ticket for $1100 and a week later they announce their sale of buy one-way get the return free...(came down to $750, yes DOLLARS SEVEN FIFTY)...I was penalized $350 for booking early!!

Can't say much about Etihad (I fly once every 2-3 yrs to AUH) since they don't fly to Houston!! I have only flown with them once on Kuwait Abu Dhabi sector. The flight to Abu Dhabi was 110% full; they had to re-route some passengers and the flight back to Kuwait had only 10 passengers. It was way back in 2007....

QR and EY are generally the cheapest for flights between Europe and Asia, Australia and Europe, and North America and Asia. I've experimented with numerous flights between different destinations and that's generally what I've noticed.
EK is no longer the cheapest for most routes it serves. EK however has the best flight timings with the shortest stopovers.
