Quite so, the old airport will be demolished and be turned to mixed use development, it will include water features as well such as canals, also will be part of the business park or FEZ.

That is mentioned many times in this thread, such reasons include the emir chose the land as halawala said. The takeoffs and landings will be away from the towers of West Bay. Land too expensive, and reclaim as to not waste land in the deserts. Not sure of others.

Any idea of when Qatar Airways will add Doha to Glasgow flights? Glasgow International (GLA) was rumoured to be one off the "2 unnamed European destinations" but nothing has been confirmed yet, for anything new to Europe.

Updates:

I have been around the site and have seen the development to the main development.

I cannot stress on how the Terminal looks massive! Massive is an understatement. The Check-in area is almost complete and they are installing glass panels as we speak. To the right and left of the "T" or Concourse A and B and almost complete and glass installation is complete.

The jetbridges all have two floors now (incoming pax use the second floor, while departing ones use the first). Previous designs inclueded the stairs within the terminal. This design change increased the surface area of the airport terminal considerably!!

The jet bridges are almost structural complete, although still well under construction.

Concourse C or the tail of the "T" is extremely long, and the steel superstructure has been placed for all of it, I think. You can notice a line running two-thirds of the way down the steel structure. That, my friends, is the people-mover train.

There is still a long way to go until this airport opens, but I am sure it will be well worth the wait! It gives you same WOW feeling as HKG, or CDG...

First, the Amiri Terminal, stilll doing the concrete work. It takes a long time because of the very difficult concrete shapes! Looks a lot like the Sydney Opera House!

Sorry, not to be a troll or anything, but why does Doha need such a large airport? Is the plan to compete with Dubai? I don't see the reasoning, nor do I see the demand. Its this another way of keeping up with the Jones's?

Wow looks impressive! Especially the VIP terminal!

P5Archit: I also think they want to compete with Dubai/Emirates... but Qatar is a great airline for sure!!!

We are looking at Kingdoms here, each trying to rival the other....it is not like North America or Europe where a lot of time and money is spent doing supply demand studies plus getting citizen's approval and thousands of city hall meetings etc. etc....no reasoning.....and that is exactly what Dubai did....and what Abu Dhabi and Doha are also doing...and these two currently have the money to do anything they want!!

You cant see the demand, but there is huge demand.

The current airport is extremely conjected with some airplanes having to park outside of Doha overnight.

Qatar Airways is growing on a yearly basis and is slated for a fleet of 110 aircraft by 2012. It carried last year 10 million passengers.

Apron Space is very small, and currently the airprot is shared with Gulf Helicopter Company, and the Qatari Armed Forces-- not to mention the noise levels as a result of the Airport's close proximity to homes, including mine.

That should be more than 10 million passengers.

Yes there is a tremendous large demand, and the new airport is to help and cope with the economic and construction boom in the country.

With this, it will also help Doha being established as a major hub in the region, attracting other airlines and use the airport as a hub or one of.

Hi there!

Im not sure if this is a joke or not, but thanks for taking the time to read over this thread.

Nothing has been done illegally here for many reasons.

First, Bechtel is the contractor company and not the client, which is the government of Qatar. That means its a publicly funded project.

Secondly, the pictures are not of sensitive areas of the project and do not include any copyrighted information. They are simply closeups of what normal people would see out on the road.

As for facts, sateliite pics, they are all available on the internet with their sources stated.

Hmmm. no where on site does it mention that photographing the terminal building from the outside is not allowed.

Take a lot at Bangkok airport and HKIA when it was getting built, I bet you'll find pictures.

These pictures were not stolen from copyright materials, and do not include sensitive information that might be damaging to Bechtel! Its not a pic of the CIA or CID, its only an airport when is owned by my Government.

However, the pictures will not be removed, and please feel free to update us on the currentl staus of the airport.
