for the first section they've started a while ago (not sure but I think 2005) but they had a huge delay because one small segment of almost 1km is disputed. Most of it is already constructed in that segment long time ago only that 1km holds the project down.

For the second segment (the cooler one with the viaducts and stuff) works started a bit more than a year ago if I'm correct maybe Realek remembers correctly.

The true construction started in late 2005. On the Eastern section work started in 2002, but it was soon grinded to a halt due to those land property issues I mentioned. However, they are working turbo right now and everybody thinks that it will be finished on time.

I think they didn't start in 2002 but were supposed to start then. Project was postponed for long time because

1. the changes of the route because those peasants and tree huggers
1. the post conflict security issues where remained economically paralised for a while

The project is at a very advanced stage anyway ...

BTW land litigations are in did critical/time consuming in EE as most of the land was state owned for decades … and the owners are claiming it back now or compensation at the "right" price

Yeah thats why I stressed that the true works started in late 2005. But believe me, at least officially works on the eastern segment started in 2002. There was some work done here and there (where there were no legal obstacles), but it was all very little and very chaotic and extremely discouraging. But with the pace it's going now, I'd say that they redeemed themselves at least partially.

the pace is really good Realek I'm fully satisfied. Even the second segment who had a couple of months delay at the beggining is kicking great. BTW Realek. If I'm correct I spotted illumination all along the highway. Do U have any info on this? Are all the 25km gonna be illuminated? If yeah that's gonna be a great sight from Vodno and a great driving experiance.

@nebunul the land propriety issues have been perhaps the No1 obstacle for investments in MK. It's really chaotic, there are still denationalization issues, the kadastre is a mess, land disputes. The judicial system is too sluggish to solve the issues in a reasonable term. Add on that very soft expropriation laws and some peasant mentality. Perfect combination.

AFAIK - yes, the whole length will be illuminated
