^ Accidentally, of course. I just don't get it why you put it here.

Good that they are not compromising with the peasants this time... it was about time...

If you could just hear the statements from the peasants on the actual TV article... One guy said his house was already damaged when IZIS was making the analysis of the ground... with the highway his house is probably gonna collapse...

Good to see progress. I'd have a question: what will be the bypass' profile? How many driving lanes, will it feature emergency lanes, what will be their width?

EDIT: ok, it's in the first post, sorry!

So how wide will each lane be? With shoulder it probably isn't meant the emergency lane, so I guess the driving lanes will be 3.75 m wide, which would mean that the emergency lane will be 3.25 m wide? (2×3.75 m + 3.25 m = 10.75 m) That's a wide emergency lane.

A highway freak should know this - standard widths are: 3,75m for driving lanes; 2,75m for the emergency lane (no need for more). Never noticed that extra space towards the middle? That's your last 0,5m

AFAIK this is the current standard for 2x(2+1) freeways in Europe. Nothing revolutionary about the bypass. The only thing I might add about the width is that there are a lot of interchanges and near them it gets wider cause the emergency lane turns into an exit/entrance lane. So 11,75m instead of 10,75 in those places. Kondovo interchange will have 4 driving lanes before the split and this is probably also the case with Hipodrom interchange (and in the future Orizari interchange too)

@ dewrob - where did you dig up those pics dude?

Oh, I completely forgot about that half meter! But standards vary; in Slovenia we usually have 2.5 m wide emergency lanes.

^ Why? It's enough for wide vehicles like trucks, and you can open the doors normally.

AFAIK the allowed standard vehicle width in Europe is 2,5m

So you don't have even 1cm to spare if you park a max. width vehicle on a 2,5 wide emergency lane.

What's the usual width of trucks though? Btw, you can go out on the other side.

I guess big trucks and buses use all that is given to them - 2,5m

Hehe, yeah that's logical; they use all the allowed length as well, or else we'd see more American-like trucks.

Well anyway, here's a photo from a Slovenian motorway (with a truck ), and I don't think anything more could come to that emergency lane; sucks. And the crash barrier makes it kinda impossible (ok, hard) to exit vehicle on the right side.

Nice addition of pics! I just found this website about the Skopje bypass http://ekosvest.com.mk/projects/camp...ypass_eng.html
there's a pdf from 2003...just goes into depth about it and the problems.

That's old news

It is about a completely different section. The peasants and the NGOs tried in 2002/2003 to radically "shift" the bypass there... So much that the new length would make it totally unattractive (at least the western part, but that means the whole east<>west transit also). The eastern section would have been good only as a shortcut from E-75 towards Blace border crossing.
If they had their way, the western section would have been 2,4km longer (through rough terrain BTW) and would have cost 91 instead of 58 million euro. All this to "protect" a church, a reservoir, a school and a cemetery from non-existing threats really. You know, the usual stuff - if the freeway is not at least 200m away, the buildings will collapse
I don't know what kind of damage they perceived in the cemetery though... Maybe the "peace" of the dead is also affected if the freeway is not 200m away

This was in Volkovo right? Coz when i was there last, the pillars were already up and they seemed to be at a fairly good distance away from the Churches, the graveyards and the school. Actually that website reminded me that i had a few recordings of the construction and i managed to cut them out, not the best recording, but just shows the area around a bit. I'm going to try and upload them onto you tube but one of the videos is 76mb, the other 447mb so i doubt it would upload properly? Either way i'm trying to find a video converter where the trial version converts the entire file coz i just figured out how to cut out video samples
I'll upload them today!

-Actually i'll do it later, i have to leave now:\

What gives you the right to make such conclusions sir? Do you have the technical expertise needed?

Only the peasants can study and draw conclusions about such complicated matters! And they made enough compromises already - 200m instead of 300m minimum distance to the nearest object. I think thats reasonable!

I'm obviously joking

i'll know my place next time those peasants have their say

Well here are those videos, first one is 1.19minutes.
They're from last year...july august probably (note i wasn't the one recording it)

I'll get the other one here as soon as the image is put on you tube, it's only 13seconds.
Ugh i just noticed the you tube quality is crap well that's it, i guess at least it shows the proximity of the church(es) and graveyard.
I'll have to dig out anything else from Ohrid or Skopje...
