INDIANAPOLIS | JW Marriott Hotel | XXX' | XX fl | Pro

So basically not too long ago our fine city of Indianapolis approved a controversial JWub Marriott. At the time it was uninspired HOWEVER we are promised to get a MUCH better design! I'm not holding my breath tho... Anywaaay, i would like to know what our expectations can be. Can we expect something daring & dazzling? Or will we just get something pathetic & plain? I can only hope that a real good design comes into fruition. So pleeease tell me, what are the details, what are the expectations, what if we DO get something parallel to the proposed IC design? If so i will be a very happy man & we will be a real pretty city!

I highly doubt they will construct anything "dazzeling", I think it will over all be the same shape, with a few what the developers consider "artsy" adds and decorations, a lil' funky glass, and there we go. I wouldent expect anything as interesting as the IC.

There are pictures of the initial design floating around the Indy dev forum if you want to search for them. I wouldn't waste your time. The redesign is due mid-April.

I do not have high expectations considering the developer's past projects in downtown Indy. You can check out the developer's website by clicking the link below.

I don't either. Nothing says Welcome to Indianapolis like a suburban-ass concrete box.

I can't even put together rational thoughts when trying to respond to anything about this goddawful project. I am boycotting Marriot hotels for life in protest of the shortsightedness of the hotel selection committee.

I really hope the Penn Tower a) gets built, b) is tall (600') and c) is spectacular.

They better get the EIFS ordered. Lord knows that they will need it.

Did any of you contact representatives of Marriott to share your concerns?

Good God - they put up those buildings in the downtown area?! Talk about disappointment. I wish all you guys the best of luck on this proposed project - I think you'll all need a miracle.

And well, at least you didn't get stuck with this building:

^"Stuck with"? That building is gorgeous. If you don't want it, send to Chicago. We'll take it.

In MW, thats probably ugly, comparing all the awesome highrises there,
but here, it would be the least ugly highrise there was, next to the old brick one, and the black marble tower.

I know I'm lazy but I'm not going through the Indy Development pages to find the renderings... Besides, if you're going to create a page dedicated to the proposal, why not post images here?

And I just have to address the Milwaukee tangent this thread inexplicably ran off on. The Sydney Hih development is far and away the most interesting, bold, creative and progressive proposal the city of Milwaukee has seen in a long, long time. I couldn't be more happy about it and can't wait for it to be finished.

Since no one was willing to dig around in the archives for the renderings, I went ahead and did it myself.

This is what should have been chosen--and easily. BUT, this is Indianapolis after all, and instead we will recieve something along the lines of this:

I appreciate NaptownBoy's effort, but honestly, I don't think original rendering is worth looking at (that's why I didn't bother, not laziness). The redesign is projected to be 4-5 floors taller and even a modest redesign could greatly improve the original design. Most aren't too optimistic, but at least Indy took the step of hiring their own architect to oversee the redesign being done by the developer. I don't expect a landmark tower, but I think we'll see something vastly improved when the redesign is made public in 3 to 4 weeks.

What redesigns would all of you like to see?? And, my other question probably would be - if there were even the slightest modifications that made it look better than the current rendering - is the Marriott boycott still happening?

Nope. It wouldn't matter because this one is a done deal. You should have seen the pre-written, automated email response they gave every single one of us.

CorrND is correct in that we'll see a new schematic in roughly 3 weeks, but I just posted those anyway to give a general idea of what we're getting...and what we could have had. Of course, they'll just slap on a few floors, tweak the facade, and call it a day.

You make it sound so simple! You have to wonder why wait 3 weeks if that's the case.....
