Beautiful glacial lakes! I have been longing to visit the ones here in North America, but that will have to wait a few years...

You Paksitani forumers seem to be more conscious of your natural heritage than your counterparts across the border. I am sure India has many such landscapes too, but for whatever reason I seem to come across far fewer threads on natural beauty when browsing the Indian subforum.

Is there any good map that shows the location of the lakes in this thread?

Then they came for me,

Going to the northern area is a wonderful and once in a life time experience(unless you are a die hard fan like myself) that i would recommend to everyone. And if you intend to see some of these lakes, It would require a jeep ride like the one shown below and/or a good hike.

I've just taken up sea-kayaking. The northern areas of Pakistan seem like a heaven for canoeing & kayaking.

What brings people to come & appreciate such immense beauty is not just the presence of it but it has to have more to offer. If more tourists visit such areas, it should also encourage preservation of the forests there as it becomes a source of generating revenue for the government and jobs for locals. It could also start kayak/canoe building industry in the north. Boating industry is in shambles, this could be great boost to talented but out of work boat builders. Later more sophisticated kayaks could be built on plains to be sent north.

Kayaks & canoes would be great as they are not like boats. Natural to the environment and rather inexpensive but would add greatly to the background scenery of the lofty mountains. Mountain climbers already love the northern Pakistan, why not bring other sport entusiasts from all over the world to Pakistan.

White water rafting & ski could also be furthur developed, if the idiots of Islamabad care about the damned country.

Again if our stupid leaders really mean tourism for Pakistan and uplift its image, then they should encourage such investment & capital in that region. They'll ofcourse have to do whole lot of work to provide facilities, lodging, but above all safety and perception of it.

But is it gonna happen in our lifetime...I wonder!
