Frankfurt is really booming. Read an article that some expect in the range from 8-20.000 could come in the aftermath of brexit. Citigroup, Goldman Sachs and UBS are the most serious so far considering moving part of their business. I guess we might just have seen the beginning

final design for db-dreieck towers got unveiled today:

The winner of the architectural competition for the reorganization of the former Deutsche Bank site is firmly named: UNStudio from Amsterdam won the eight-member prize, consisting of representatives from the city, architects and urban development experts and Groß & Partner Grundstücksentwicklungsgesellschaft mbH

A total of fifteen national and international architectural firms participated in the competition. These included both individual offices as well as some applicant groups, so that the participant field consisted of eleven applicants. The challenge was to create a mixed-use, urban city quarter consisting of four high-rise buildings and a multi-storey, connecting pedestal building in the heart of Frankfurt's city - a new attraction for the people in the Mainmetropolis. Retail, gastronomy and hotels, as well as a comprehensive range of accommodation, which also includes 8,000 m² of floor space according to the funding programs of the city of Frankfurt am Main and the state of Hesse. The Frankfurt skyline will be redefined with the four towers, which are up to 228 meters high.

comparison between the former design proposal and final design:

actual and planned highrise projects at the "messe cluster", south of 257m messeturm, between frankfurt fair and central railway station:

blue = existing highrises
turquoise = under construction
green = approved, construction starts likely this year
yellow = approved, some recent news about these projects, possible construction start next year or in 2019
orange = approved, no recent news, construction start unlikely in the next few years

Incredible progresses for Frankfurt! Only a part of this is due to Brexit expectations though, it's mostly the city's very own strength. It diversifies a lot and is increasingly attractive for investors, expats and residents from across the globe. Definitely a globalisation winner.

But the proportions of the two towers in between (to the left seen from these renders) somehow worsened, they should rethink those a little.

FRANKFURT | Projects & Construction

Do you think that anything of what we witness now is due to brexit? I wonder if we are not going to see an even larger boom once something of that is realised. Some risk is minimised and I guess we will see a boom in offices and perhaps even more in residential buildings.

Db Dreieck in this form with the 228 meter Tower is driven by brexit thoughts for sure.

A spectacular cityscape combining centuries of history, innit?
