Talgo trains for Riyadh-Dammam

Quote:
TALGO confirms the latest awarding of 6 trains offered to the Saudi Railways Organization (SRO). The goal is to cover the railway line which links the capital, Riyadh, with Dammam, the country’s major eastern location. These high-speed trains will cover the 449 kms. that divide both cities.
The contract between TALGO & SRO exceeds $200 million and has two main goals: cut travelling time, between Riyadh & Dammam, from 4 hours down to 3, and boost speed-design to 200 km/h.
The main novelty of these trains is that they are self-propelled with Diesel-Electric traction (catenary-less power). Its other features are quite similar to those of the HARAMAIN train, of the Mecca Medina railway line, including the distinguished “desert package”, which reinforces the train’s sealing systems by blocking-out the sand and heat, while it travels under atmospheric temperatures that can exceed 55 degrees Celsius. Additionally, it counts with in-built protection for its windows and other external areas, as well as an enhanced paint and coatings to counter the effects of abrasion.

It's the same line which already run trains from Spanish manufacturer CAF.

What? Will they enforce a Baggage check-in & Baggage-claim system?

What a nuisance ...

Thanks for the pictures!!!.

Now that you can see CAF trains for SAR, I would like to know its composition.

According to CAF are 5 trains push-pull, so they have a diesel locomotive and a cab-van (or something similar), it seems to 3 daytime sets have 9 plus trailers (3 First, 4 Tourist, Cafeteria and ...) at 280 meters. While the two night sets would have 13 trailers (1 First, 3 Tourist, 3 bunk beds, restaurant, 4 carries-cars and ...) at 381 meters. Or maybe have the cab-van as if it were a trailer, I do not know. Nor do I know the power of the locomotive, nor do they need a push-pull train carries-car holder, changes direction along the way ?.

Thanks in advance

According to an image that the media have become: Riad-Al Hadithah 1,242 km in 6 hours 12 minutes, which means an average of exactly 200 km/h.
Obviously a mistake, 200 km/h is the maximum speed, so it can not be.

Seems like a fast-ish train and for some reason it reminds me of the Amtrak trains in America (like a blend between Acela and the diesel trains)

SRO launches push-pull trains at 180 km/h
07 Dec 2015

SRO President Mohammed bin Khalid Al-Suwaiket inspected the new trains at Dammam with CAF CEO Andrés Arizkorreta García (left) and Spanish Ambassador Joaquin Perez Villanueva (right)

SAUDI ARABIA: President of Saudi Railways Organization Mohammed bin Khalid Al-Suwaiket attended a ceremony in Dammam on December 7 to mark the start of faster passenger services to Riyadh using four push-pull trainsets supplied by CAF of Spain. Designed for a maximum speed of 200 km/h, the trains will operate at up to 180 km/h, ‘even during extreme weather conditions’, according to SRO.

Al-Suwaiket said that the new push-pull trains were ‘a quantum leap’ for SRO’s passenger services. Designed to meet a demanding performance specification, each train has 274 seats in two classes spread over five cars with stainless steel bodyshells, the sixth vehicle being a diesel power car. Passengers have access to wi-fi and video and audio entertainment channels, and a dedicated area is provided for passengers with reduced mobility. The trains are fitted with ERTMS, event recorders and smoke detectors

Hi. Why there are two state owned enterprises to manage Saudi Ariabian network instead of just one? Sure, there are other countries with indipendent companies, but either the companies have different owners (like in North America), or manage big networks. However, Saudi network is quite small, and both companies seem to be completely state owned. So...why not just one company?
