Talgo train update

THE MECCA-MEDINA HIGH-SPEED RAIL PROJECT HAS REACHED AN IMPORTANT MILESTONE: INTERIOR DESIGN APPROVAL.

The Saudi Arabian Minister of Transport, His Excellency Dr. Jubara Al-Suraisri has paid a visit to our country in order to get to know the manufacturing facilities in which the construction of the high-speed trains for the Mecca-Medina rail line will be carried out.

The visit started with a round trip between Madrid and Zaragoza by a high-speed Talgo train, thus allowing to compare the differences between this train and the Talgo train that will operate on the Mecca-Medina line. The visit continued at the Talgo factory, located in Las Matas, where the train power heads production will start in December, 2013. Besides the train full-size mock-up was presented, enabling the assessment of the future train design.

The Saudi Arabian Minister of Transport was accompanied by the Minister of Development Ms. Ana Pastor, the President of the Saudi Railways Organization, His Excellency Mohammed Khalid Al-Suwaiket, thePresident of RenfeMr.Julio Gσmez Pomar, the President of Talgo Mr. Carlos Palacio Oriol and the President of the Spanish Consortium Mr. Pablo Vαzquez, who manages the current contract for the Construction and Operation of the high-speed rail line between Mecca and Medina.

For the Minister of Transport the visit was of great importance, since he could see and appreciate the proposed design models in full-scale.

The Minister of Transport emphasizes that the Mecca-Medina high-speed rail Project is of prime importance for the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and the Middle East. He pointed out that the high-speed railroad connection between the two Holy Cities would allow the pilgrims and regulars travelers to travel to Holy Sites pilgrimage in large number and at convenient times.

Besides he expressed his enthusiasm for the project and his hope for more projects in the future.

The Minister of Development Ms. Ana Pastor declared, on her part, that all works concerning design, manufacturing process and rolling stock were progressing well.

The train manufacturing process will be launched at the beginning of 2014 after the complete design approval, and the delivery of a first unit for testing could be done by the end of 2014.

The train model that Talgo is manufacturing for the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia is the one known in Spain as “The Duck” of the highest quality and comfort. This train will have more capacity and will be adapted to the extreme temperatures and sand of Saudi Arabia.

Thanks, but I was trying to find out which workers and engineers they would use, since Mecca is apparently forbidden terrain for non-muslims.

I remember that during the construction of Mecca Metro, according to Al Jazeera, the constructors used Chinese workers to build the line. Is that true or not?

I had no idea Mecca had a metro, very cool. I'm all for clean, efficient and safe ways to get around a city. Gets people out of their cars and walking more.

It's not surprising, as we can't reach Mecca Here what I meant:

I was thinking that high-speed rail is being built by the hands of Chinese workers. But existance of Adif simply ruled out this thought. The Spanish won't hire Chinese even as workers. So my thought is that rail is being built by hands of workers from third-world Muslim countries
