Finally wev'e got it! It actually looks ok, although the render does this building NO justice at the moment. I agree with Jafa, the pyramid on top will look awesome at night!!

Finally!

I think it looks a little ugly! But hey, it's height for the city. We need to see proper renders of the building before we all have a good go at it.

I'm glad though, that they are thinking green.

Thanks Haydn for posting this.

Likewise David. Can't help wondering why all the fuss about the power generation. Do they really expect to be able to feed back into the national grid? They'd be lucky to generate the transformer magnetising current.

Don't mean to sound like a downer... but don't we already have one of these?

Yes i was gonna say that...the design has many subtle similarities with the Grand Chancellor.

Hmm...sadly yea im coming to the same conclusion. I was looking at it for awhile today and the design flaws are in the facade I think..thats what lets it down.

*comes out of lurking*

Must say the first thing I thought when I saw the render was 'HGC without the roof'. Would have been nice to have something a bit different, but hey, adds a little more density to the city centre.

We should email whoevers in charge of this thing to change the design, i mean how dear they give us something short of perfection as the new tallest of south island?

Dont worry im fairly certain it wont be the tallest for very long, im sure they will build something even bigger in a few years time. I also think it will look better in real life than what the render suggests. Also on a positive note, atleast this tower will look cool from a skyline perspective with the pyramid sticking out on top. We will have to just wait and see.

aucklandman, please this a new tallest for chc, even a sandcastle woud suffice! I'm optimistic it will turn out good, but as I said to david, I don't think that particular image deserves to hold the title of a tallest anything -
looks more like something to fill a gap. Remember the budget is just $23 million.

You're right. How long will it stay SI's tallest for though?

etp@inet.net.nz <Dunno if he was in charge of the design but it's his development.

ditto.

As I have been saying to Cartel - it's like anything new, we are all giving our first impressions. We need to let these settle and see some decent renders and models and I'm sure we will feel a little happier.

Tony - you are so right - I think this is only the start of a sure but steady change to the face and fabric of central Christchurch.

I think we all with you on that on Ben - but it is a new start. Hopefully some of the other developments planned will bring about a new look.

Thanks - will do

And as for this being the start of a new wave of talls, it could well be - Christchurch had a rash of new ones go up between '86 and '89, and so here's hoping this is the beginning of the latest cycle.
