Larissa Train Station Bridge

The progress of the bridge near the defunct Pelaponisos station is quite far. It will eventually replace the destroyed one over the tracks, Sidirodromon str and provide a future subterranian extension for Konstinopouleos street, as well as the new triple tracks to the Larissa station.

UPDATE April 2009

1) SKA- Kiato electrification

For the first time in greek railways history the peloponnese will have an electrified line...

Look at the following map :

The electrification project of the Line Athens (SKA)-Kiato goes quite well (finally!!)

So from my observations it seems that the works for the installation of the overhead contact system have progressed more in the part Kiato-Corinth-Ag. Theodoroi.
There we can clearly see the catenary poles and in some cases the contact wire.

If everything goes well next year the line from Athens (SKA) to Kiato will be completely electrified. This will have surely an impact on the traveling time, since now the use of diesel trains restrains the max speed.

Some photos :

near Kiato

I passed by the Larrisa train station yesterday, where archeologists were clearing the way for the new tracks to Pireaus and crews were assembling the new steel awnings for the two new platforms.

Underground passage Larissa station

There is an underground passage in the new station that will eventurally link directly to the platforms of the metro. I saw them during the construction of the metro. You can also see temporary walls on the metro platform which are evidence of it. The underground passage will follow approximately the existing pedestrian bridge. There is also another one that is an extension to the existing underground passage that links the existing above train platforms.
