Until a decade Greek Railways network wasn't in a good state with old tracks and old trains but thanks to Greece's entry to EU there has been a massive investment to Greek railways. I hope soon Turkey joins EU and Turkish Railways get better.

The electrification will be ready (according to ERGOSE) in 2009.
The only finished work is the line from the Airport untill Neratziotissa station (Athens)

@Giorgo the trains that are in use currently for this line are STADLER DMUs and for the small electrified part DESIROs
Electric DMUs?

you don't need EU to extend the railway network, the EU was just good like giving advices to Greece, like hey guys, you'll miss some good thing if you don't start to upgrate your network.

Greek network is on a good way to became a wonderful one, only OSE is the black sheep in the Greek railway, so I wish private operators. Is there open acess planned?

Is very dificult for private operators.Ose has problems but if the goverment wants, can to grow up.All the constructions in Greek railways is from ose's funds or loans, and not from ministry.
Sorry for my english!

Don't see any direct connection with Greece being an EU state, and upgrading the railways infustructure. And i am sure that as Turkey is concerned, the railways are being under some serious upgrades too.

As for the Greek railways, unfortunately even the most positive thoughts wont make them look perfect, sure there are some major improvements, but the works are delayed a lot and the new trains that were bought before 2004 are still waiting to enter service, or are only partly running part of the upgraded and now electrified lines. But the upgraded infrastructure is only positive of course

You will choose departure ATHENS and arivale Thesaloniki.

Yeah I know, built by ergOSE , but who pays it? 50% EU, 50% Greek government/ministry. So there shouldn't be any problems giving open acess licenses out.

Yes.The only difference between IC,ICE is the number of stops, not the speed.
