around here but don't quote me on it, currently everything is only speculation. news reports don't even talk about deaths although there are clearly photos showing casualties like that. And remember that closest metro station apparently got pretty badly destroyed, between the explosion and that station there are quite a few apartment blocks. Currently it is to early to say though, police and fire fighters don't let any journalists close to the site and as long the fires are burning it's more important that as many people get saved as possible. The damage will be immense though.

the injury rate will be insane for sure, those were several explosions after all. the smaller one, got everyone to look out of the window and when that explosion triggered the bigger explosion, all of these people were exactly where they shouldn't be, next to a window.

Should be about correct. Its reported that the roadstation north of ground zero was completely erased. That road station is located a few hundred meters further away from ground zero than the newest highrise apartment blocks are.

what exactly do they mean with "roadstation". I thought they meant the closest metro station "Donghailu" Station. If that is like completely destroyed, i wonder what happened to the convention center. Reports also state the metro line is damaged, so these apartment blocks between the explosion and the station would be pretty badly damaged as well with that big of a fireball. I doubt they got destroyed, maybe the clostest ones (but even those i think we would have seen images of that by now), but still those are around 30 maybe 20 story buildings (here is streetview of said apartment complex) and the explosion was in the middle of the night meaning that all the people were in their homes asleep until the sound of the first explosion brought them to the windows and on the streets.

BBC is reporting AT LEAST 7 dead and 300 injured. Hopefully the casualty report won't go up dramatically.

the fires will still burn for the next two fires, only then we will hear about the true numbers. but what we have now is already a taste of what is probably to come. a really high injury count over a dead count only in the very closest area. if the apartment buildings right across the streets just started burning and got evacuated instead of coming down the death toll shouldn't be too high. if those apartment blocks didn't make it and they were already completed and fully rented, those numbers will skyrocket. Everything now is pure speculation though, i will go sleep now and see the numbers then. Hopefully that explosion looked much more impressive than it actually was in terms of destructive power.

Some guys camera shot video of the explosion, it was pretty huge... a man said the apartment complexes close to the explosion were charred and debris from the blast reached pretty far, shattered windows and cnn reports 17 ppl dead 2 firefighters are missing still... looks like the fire is under control now its daylight just a lot of smoke.

The numbers we are getting are prelimanary and the final numbers will probably not be accurate the chinese gov will obviously try their best to cover this up the best they can.

I believe it takes much more power to break a curtain wall panel of a skyscraper than an ordinary window...

you would need the equivalent of the nuclear bombs dropped in japan to level a skyscraper like this unless the blast was directly in front of it not 2km away like wednesdays explosion
