Interior Designs

Hi there!

As a recent member on the forum, I have been asked to start a new thread. So far I had not found any decent idea for a new one until today. Don't hesitate to criticise if you think the idea is cr**.
I realised that most of the threads deal with the building themselves and not with what's going on inside. I personnally think that one of the best selling point of a city is its ability to create the best and most original interior designs. After all people generally spend more time inside a building drinking coffee or waiting for the train rather than outside it.
One of the recent interiors I really like is the new urban deli that's in the Chimes building on Campo Lane. Fairly simply done: the concrete was just varnished to give it a good look. The furniture's great quality, nice wood and leather, yet simple. I just love the place.

they also have great yorkshire crisps (ok that's not interior design but come on...)

A subject which isn't talked about a great deal on here Frogged, but one which interests me a lot. what you say is spot on - we spend far more time looking at interiors than exteriors and its important they're as attractive as the rest of the building.

Funnily enough someon on the Metier Apartments thread has just mentioned how their friend who owns a flat there is dissapointed with the quality of finish inside.

In my opinion social buildings in particular require good interiors - places of interaction such as pubs restaurants and cafes have little else to be judged on (when you consider a particular beer will taste pretty much the same regardless of which pub you're in, its the surroundings as you drink it that become important).

If you like, this can be our Official Sheffield Interior Designs thread. Everyone give your views and examples of interiors around the city. Its interesting what you say about the Chimes Frogged, because I was in the Wig and Pen earlier this month and it was easy to tell which part of town the top-notch interiors were at.

I was gonna say about the Metier appartments. Building's need to be finished to a decent quality internally aswell as external. If it's crap inside, people won't want to live/work in them, and eventually they'll end up decoming run down and delapidated.

I often hear people on the SheffieldBorum talking about how all the new flats being built could end up as the slums of the future, and usually I defend them, as it's generally a different clientell living in them to those who live on council estates etc. but unfortunately, if the building's aren't built to a good standard, it could end up being true.

I was in the Footprint factory the other week and their reception area is a perfectly preserved examples of 1960's design. Lots of brown fixtures and fittings and a large brown wall moulding of all the different tools they make. They've even got the original manual telephone switchboard behind the desk. It's hard to explain, but the atmosphere in there is great.

Good idea for a thread Frogged, would be great to get some pictures on here, maybe the usual photographic suspects could try this?

Top of my list to view would be V1 and Metier to compare flats in same location, then would be the new 'grade A' office spaces in the city, The Square etc

I agree. Would be nice to compare, and see who has the best offices and flats in the city. :-P
