Nairobi, Kenya wins bid to host 2015 WTO Conference
Capital
8 December 2014

Quote:
Kenya has won the bid to host the forthcoming 10th World Trade Organisation (WTO) Ministerial Conference scheduled for December, 2015.

Member countries of the WTO unanimously made the decision following intense lobbying by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Trade led by Cabinet Secretary Amina Mohamed.

Turkey, which was also competing to host the conference, withdrew her bid in favour of Kenya.

In a letter to the Chairman of the General Council of WTO, the Turkish Government said it stepped down in favour of Kenya following consultations with Cabinet Secretary Mohamed.

That Konza Technology City is amazing! Great density and layout. If only more of it were closer to the rail line that parallels the highway.

City Momentum Index 2015
Jones Lang LaSalle (Chicago)
January 2015

Quote:
London is the most dynamic global city according to JLLs latest City Momentum Index, due to its strong economic fundamentals, high levels of cross-border investment, positive outlook and reputation as a global tech hub.

JLLs City Momentum Index ranks 120 global cities by factors including investment, property prices, and connectivity, research & development, technology and business start-ups.

The 2015 report found that cities identified as tech hubs were the most dynamic, with Boston, San Jose and San Francisco also appearing alongside London in the top 20 list.

London topped the list because of high scores for education infrastructure, innovation capability, the number of high-tech companies and projected office and retail rental growth.

Other trends identified in the research include the buoyancy of Chinese cities, with seven appearing in the global top tier due to continued expansion of its domestic market and middle class population. While continental European cities were once again absent from the top 20, cities in India and Sub-Saharan Africa were for the first time represented in the top 20 due to the robust demand for office space from technology companies in Bangalore and expanding Multinational Corporations in Nairobi.

What makes Nairobi Africa's 'most intelligent' city
CNN Marketplace Africa
February 2015

Quote:
For a second year in a row, Kenya's busy capital city of Nairobi has been named the most intelligent city in Africa.

According to the Intelligent Community Forum, "intelligent communities" are those that have taken "conscious steps" to create an economy that can prosper in the "broadband economy." The group has recently released its latest rankings, recognizing the achievements of communities that have built inclusive, prosperous economies on a basis of information and communication technologies.

Nairobi was the only African city to appear on their shortlist of 21 hubs throughout the world for 2015.

Intelligent Community Forum co-founder Robert Bell says: "We see a strong foundation being put into place [in Nairobi]: sensible, pro-growth government policy, a more diversified economy, and an innovation ecosystem of startups, international companies and universities.

"Nairobi certainly has the opportunity to build an exciting future for its citizens, businesses and institutions."
