Hi all
The Crane Count threads on the other UK sub-forums still seem quite popular, yet ours seems to have fallen by the wayside. At the moment we're in some kind of transitional phase, with a fair few developments completing, and several new ones yet to appear on site, so we're clearly a long way off our peak of 31/32, but I thought it might be interesting to see exactly where we're at - Liverpool One - - White - 2 - Red - 5 - Blue - 1 - Green - 1 Kings Dock - 1 Vermont - 1 Alexandra Tower - 1 Columbus Quay - 1 Total = 13 Not exactly our most impressive total. But with Princes Dock 3A, Central Village, Trinity Dock, Mann Island and others in the offing, it should pick up a bit. As always, feel free to make any additions or corrections.

![]() It will be a development of 429 apartments in three blocks, delivered by a partnership of City Lofts and David McLean. The three blocks will be sufficiently tall to require a tower crane, probably more than one in fact.

Official website - www.trinitydock.co.uk - not much on there, but it clearly shows the site in question.
And this render, originally posted by Woody in the Kings Dock thread last November -

Thanks to Ged's great aerial photos in the Images thread, I've noticed we still have a crane at the University Design Academy.
Liverpool One - - White - 2 - Red - 5 - Blue - 1 - Green - 1 Kings Dock - 1 Vermont - 1 Alexandra Tower - 1 Columbus Quay - 1 University Design Academy - 1 Total = 14

Thanks thudbucket!
![]() So that gives us a total of 15, plus another 3-4 to appear soon. Although Trinity Dock is looking more uncertain now, hopefully Plot 3a will suprise us all and appear on site, giving us at least another 1, possibly 2 ![]() Out of interest, does anyone know if the Princes Dock MSCP alterations are likely to require a crane?

![]() It does, but with Liverpool One growing ever closer to completion, I suppose a downturn was to be expected. Checking back through this thread, at one point the PDSA had 19 cranes!

Lpool 1 - White-2 Red-5 Blue-1 Vermont-1 Columbus-1 Hope St-1 Alexandra Tower-1 Total-12 Chris, I'm unaware of the scale of the alterations to PDock MSCP, but as it's a precast concrete construction, very likely. Don't hold your breath on Plot 4A - it's still an expensive (£2.00 per hour!)pay and display car park, but I'm an optomist! I seem to remember a post about planning permission being given for an 80 metre crane at the Port of Liverpool Building (Brunswick Street) but no sign of that. If King Edward goes ahead that could yield 2 or 3 cranes, more if the luffing jib type are used - but enough of this rambling!

Crane Count Apl 08
The Alexandra Tower crane is being dismantled as this is posted, which with the disappearance of the Vermont crane, gives us an grand
total of ten. We now see that as major developments complete, the "credit crunch" means others are slow in taking their place!

![]() I suppose we've been lucky to hold onto the Alex crane as long as we have. By rights it should have gone ages ago. Anyway, I'm still hopeful that the Mann Island blocks will bring us a couple, at least one of the Hilton cranes should still be with us for a while as well, and I wouldn't be surprised to see a crane appear for the Novotel in due course too. I think Vermont is only a temporary blip as well. As soon as the tower starts construction it'll be back. To think, there's about as many cranes in the whole of our city centre currently as Salford has just in Media City. Oh well, we had a good run, and I'm sure it'll perk up again sooner or later.

I have been worried for a while that, whilst we have been and will continue to enjoy a glut of "completions" this year and early 2009, we havent had any signficant "on-site" starts in a while.
I won't be reassured about this until I see King Eddies, Plot 3a, Shanghai, Vermont Tower, Central Vilage, Lewis's, ABC, St Johns (even the screen hasnt started yet!) and Clayton square start on site. If they all get off the ground then maybe we'll be ok, even though Pall Mall, Ropewalks and London Road still need lots of work. If they don't, our city centre will still have gaping holes in it, made all the worse for the new shiny bits in Liverpool One. |

I agree BB that it's always something of a relief to see a development start on site. However I'm still fine about King Eddie's, Shanghai, and Vermont as they are all showing encouraging signs of progress.
As for Plot 3A, as much as I want this to go ahead, if I look in the Echo in the near future to read the scheme has collapsed, I'm not going to be remotely surprised. There is too little news, and no action for me to feel that all is still well with this scheme. Hopefully I'm wrong. As for the crane count, if all proposed plans actually come to fruition, maybe by the year's end, we can look forward to - Mann Island - 2/3 Vermont - 1 Princes Dock 3A - 2 Princes Dock MSCP -1 Central Station - 2 Byrom Street Hotel - 1 King Eddies - 1/2 amongst others. So we won't be doing too badly.

Hi Chris B and others, the new hotel development in Hanover Street will have a single, luffing-jib crane; problems with the foundations have delayed it (this from a very helpful manager on site). As for Mann Island, the contractors rep on site(HBG) says there will be "two, maybe three", but I'm unsure he was talking about mobiles (see Lpool Museum, where a saddle-jib disappeared soon after being put in place) or towers. We wait and we see
