I know if you're a pilot or cabin crew, you can fly for a discount or free depending on where in the plane you want to sit.
For the rest, not too sure. |

aranho, in many airlines including sq pilots receive discount (depends on the airline, sq is like 80 or 90%, im not too sure), for spouse and children under 21 (a little more if studying) too.
I believe that when they travel using ID, they can fly free on "jumpseat", the retractable seat in the cockpit. But i think it depends on country's regulations.

It usually depends on the terms of the contract. Airlines usually gives 3 free tickets - one for staff and the remaining 2 for family members a year to any destination on their network. Family members = spouse, parents, children and siblings under 21. Otherwise, airline staff also gets 90% discount on tickets for family members, but those seats are not confirmed, meaning that if the flight is fully booked, a staff family member is "bumped" off.
Travel/Ticketing agents used to get 70% discounts on the airlines they were "pushing", but that's only for self. I know I had that when I worked for a travel agency... almost 20 years ago now. Ack, I'm old

Kuwait and Singapore ink open skies agreement
4 Nov 08 SINGAPORE: Singapore and Kuwait have inked an open skies agreement. The signing was witnessed by Singapore President S R Nathan and Kuwait Amir Sheikh Sabah. The two countries have also agreed to cooperate in areas like e-government, energy and banking. Over the last few years, there has been an increase in demand for passenger and cargo flights to the Middle East. With the open skies agreement, Singapore Airlines (SIA) will now have greater flexibility to meet that demand. Kuwait is one of the four Middle East countries that Singapore has such an agreement with. The others are Bahrain, Qatar and UAE. With Saudi Arabia, Singapore has an open skies agreement with the city of Dammam, but has limited access to Riyadh and Jeddah. Currently, SIA Cargo operates two weekly freighter flights between Kuwait and Singapore. As for passenger services, SIA is flying to Dubai, Abu Dhabi, and Jeddah. The Civil Aviation Authority of Singapore (CAAS) says Kuwait is on the horizon for SIA, and more studies are currently being done to determine commercial viability. "With the financial crisis now, airlines are busy looking at all the routes and determining which one is profitable for them. And so far, traffic between Singapore and Middle East has not been too badly affected by it, so I think the opportunities are there," said the director-general and CEO of CAAS, Lim Kim Choon. Another area which presents opportunities is the banking sector. Senior Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, Zainal Abidin Rasheed, said: "Kuwait has been strong in terms of financial services and development, and so is Singapore. And I think Singapore would like to see itself as a gateway for Kuwait to develop joint projects, joint interests, not only for Singapore, but also for the region of Southeast Asia and East Asia. "In fact, there has been some interest shown and we are working hard on these areas.” Since 2004, the Infocomm Development Authority (IDA) of Singapore has been working with Kuwait on implementing its e-government services. And on Tuesday, Singapore President Nathan and Kuwait Amir Sheikh Sabah witnessed the signing of a third Memorandum of Understanding in e-government cooperation. New areas to be looked at include education and healthcare IT projects. Singapore is ranked first in the world for its e-government services. Deputy chief executive of IDA, Leong Keng Thai, said: "For Singapore companies, this hopefully will give them an opportunity to expand their business opportunities and share their expertise outside of Singapore." Singapore and Kuwait have a longstanding relationship. When leaders from both sides met, Amir Sheikh Sabah expressed his people's gratitude for the support that Singapore gave Kuwait following the Iraqi invasion. During this state visit, the foreign affairs ministries from both sides also signed an Agreement on Establishing a Joint Committee for Co-operation, which will lead to more partnerships in areas like trade, energy and culture. The two leaders also talked about the current financial crisis, developments in the Middle East and the importance of seriously pursuing inter-faith dialogue. President Nathan and his delegation of 38 people will be hosted to a state banquet on Tuesday evening. By Pearl Forss, Channel NewsAsia |

Cathay Pacific has added its 7th daily flight from Hong Kong to Singapore. That's quite scary if one thinks about it. Even AirAsia doesn't have this many flights or capacity on the SIN- KUL route.
And it has got me wondering. Why can't Singapore Airlines make the SIN- HKG route more frequent? In addition, by early next year, ALL HKG- bound flights, including SQ1/2 will be downgauged to Boeing 777-300ER, means an overall drop in capacity on SQ's side. |

I think CP's SIN-HGK flights are more for the people in Singapore (mostly), West Malaysia (maybe) and maybe Sumatra/Jakarta who wants to go to China (mostly), Japan and Korea (maybe) and the west coast of North America (maybe) via Changi and HKG. CX's home base of HKG is well suited for those traffic which is why I guess it's adding frequency to SIN. SQ on the other hand prefers to fly direct from Changi to those places, so it doesn't need to fly to HKG first.

i think cathay and UA run many flights from singapore through hkg to america. singapore is just an extension of a very high demand transpacific route btw HKG and america.

CAAS Launches New Website ViaSingapore.com
Thursday, 13 November 2008 The Civil Aviation Authority of Singapore (CAAS) has launched a new website called ViaSingapore.com which enables users to compare the best deals for flights in and out of Singapore, including fares on both full service and low cost carriers. Director-General and CEO, CAAS, Mr Lim Kim Choon spoke about the benefits of using ViaSingapore.com which not only enables users to compare flight deals but it also allows them to access the website offering the selected fares to complete the entire booking process. "ViaSingapore is a convenient one-stop shop that offers travellers the best airfares to come to Singapore or to explore the Asia Pacific region from Singapore, by tapping on Singapore Changi Airport's extensive connectivity. The introduction of this portal is part of CAAS' ongoing efforts to enhance Changi Airport's attractiveness as an air hub.” ViaSingapore hosts a search engine that combs more than 100 websites in real time to search for the best fare offers on both full service carriers and low cost carriers. Through the portal, users can easily access the website offering the selected fares to make the flight bookings. The portal is also able to recognise the location the users are logging in from, and automatically display the lowest fares from that location into and out of Singapore. To celebrate the website launch special deals will be offered exclusively on ViaSingapore, Jetstar Asia is offering an all-inclusive one-way airfare of S$90* to Bangkok. Special deals for other Jetstar Asia destinations are also available on ViaSingapore. Besides offering attractive airfares, users can find information on accommodation, tour packages and upcoming events on ViaSingapore. There are also suggestions for stopovers in Singapore to encourage visitors to visit Singapore when they travel via Singapore. *Prices include taxes and surcharges. Promotional fares on ViaSingapore.com are valid from 14 - 19 Nov 2008 for travel 5 Jan - 31 Jan 2009 (blackout dates 23 - 28 Jan 2009). |

Delta Air Lines now "flies" to Singapore!!!
That is, according to the January's issue of Sky magazine, http://www.delta-sky.com/fullmagazine/2009_01/ Go to page 112. And page 105 reveals that Singapore Airlines KrisFlyer miles and Delta's Sky Miles can still be earned from each other's network. |

Yeah. The merger with Northwest.
Delta's Economy interiors are definitely the best among the US carriers. Wouldn't mind flying them as soon as I can fly on a Delta interior aircraft. Anyway, I did a dummy booking with Delta and SIN-NRT operates Northwest's NW19/20 as DL3500/3501. |

4 new airlines at T2
27 Mar 09 FROM Sunday, Air India, Air India Express, Asiana Airlines and Korean Air will operate out of Changi Airport's Terminal 2. The four are currently at Terminal 1. The Civil Aviation Authority of Singapore (CAAS) said in a statement on Friday that the move is to allow the airlines to have more capacity for their future growth and expansion. It will also 'better distribute capacity usage across the three main terminals and optimise the usage of airport facilities', said CAAS director-general and chief executive officer Lim Kim Choon. To inform passengers and visitors about the move, the airport will be updating its directories, signs and electronic displays. Steps have also been taken to keep the Indian and Korean communities here posted about the move, via their respective embassies and key associations. On top of that, the CAAS will also be distributing car decals to taxi operators and posters to major tourist establishments in Little India. http://www.straitstimes.com/Breaking...ry_355361.html |

Is there a pattern on the choice of airlines switching from T1 to T2, or T2 to T3? Is there a desired mix?
Also, when will T1 upgrading works be complete? |

Wow. If you aren't traveling on SQ, connecting in Changi will become more of a PITA.
I have no idea why Korean Air has moved to T2. This is an absolute step-back for SkyTeam. At T1, SkyTeam had seemed to have pretty much consolidated itself together, with Korean Air, Delta, Airfrance, KLM pretty much using the same check-in rows. Now SkyTeam is segregated again, or maybe this is the first-step for SkyTeam moving to T2. World's airports are heading towards consolidating based on alliance which has obvious benefits for shared check-in, lounge and other facilities. And yet CAAS is going a step-back on this, beginning with T3. Shows how much CAAS think they know airlines hur. |
