Your obsession with skytower and his website is interesting to watch.

LOL at you guys. Do you guys actually lose sleep worrying about how tall this thing is at any given moment? Somebody should sneak on the site, take the elevator to the top and drop a tape measure over the side.

I know exactly how tall it is today..........................really tall

I don't wanna argue with you ...but you should remember that BD was for a number of good weeks nr 5 in the world and that could only happen if it had been 441m and not 445m(see the rankings your self)...it's logical you're confising...and if u wanna call me SkyTower 2 that's fine by me Pace in the World

Tom, compare your 2 locations on a topographic map of Dubai.
The Burj Dubai (set in an ancient lake bed) is just 8ft above sea level.
The height just Northeast of that roundabout is 23ft above sea level.
Because the gradient between those 2 points is gradual, the 21st Century Tower between the two shouldn't really give
much deviance in the proposed figures you came up with; but to contradict you once again, the 21st Century tower is
not built at the same height as Burj Dubai.....just thought I'd point that one out!

Yes Tom, I do know what problems happen in Dubai when structures are built below sea level.
Contradicting your comments once more, Burj Dubai IS built inside a crater.
They dug down 19m (17m below sea level) to put in the piles.
They had big problems constantly pumping out brackish water before laying the foundation mat
(of which the top of the foundation sits 13.3m below sea level)....just thought I'd point that one out too!

Give me an official source that say that the Burj Dubai foundation is 13.3m below sea level. You can`t? The only thing you can do is tellng us: believe in what i say. Your page is based on that. We have to believe you. You don`t have exclusiv pics that would make it more easy to believe in you. You have just many numbers and some articels (When will cladding start? In June say EMAAR. You said Apil haven`t you?

You said you already have been in Dubai. Where are your pics? You also wanted to go to Dubai one week after Valentine Day to Dubai with yous DSLR. And?

I can give you as many evidence as you want. I have more than written words.

I was in Dubai. Need an evidence?
That`s me during a meeting with the forumer Altin

My 50 cents

Here my 50 cents,

Statement that the foundation cant bare anything over 950m is crap. You can always use other materials (lighter, eg alumium etc), but that would make the structure more expensive, however, it doesnt seem they care about that! And about wind loading, you can alter the shape of the building get around that, till some extent off couse. by the way a slenderness (depth/height) till 1:12 is achievable for buildings, so a hight of 1K for burj dubai should be posible.

Something else, i believe they will have a batch of very talented marketeers involved in this project. Their interest is to keep the truth about the final height blur. Ím therefore pretty sure that some of the disbelievers here and on other internet sites are these marketeers advocating for a less tall stucture....(i do not want to accuse anybody)

Keep on discussing!!

I do agree with what giovani just said. Skytower's explanations are logical and true. There is a great deal of technical knowledge that many of you guys just like to disprove but don't take the time to do it. He does seem to have a lot of knowledge on these matters and cites many sources for his updated information. Most everybody else just simply says it isn't true.

Trying to to trig from Google Earth is not an exact science. There is deviation but someone is just going to come up and say the contrary.

In his latest figures from dubaimegaprojects, the top of piling without form walls makes it 448m or 1470 ft. With the same way Guinness measured the Sears Tower as surpassing the WTC, Burj Dubai is now the tallest building in the world. Bear in mind this top of pinnacle construction is not a completed or semi completed floor but it took one steel girder bolted on for Sears to surpass WTC as tallest building in the world back in 1973.

Who ever want's to use a trig method to counter Skytowers GPS updated information, get a physical surveyors triangle and physically go there yourself or get someone to physically go there and measure the building. Simple calculations from Google Earth are close approximations with room for deviancy.

Cladding on Burj Dubai set to begin in June

Cladding for Emaar Properties' Burj Dubai is due to arrive in the UAE from China in May.

The cladding has been made by China's Far East Aluminium Works Company and installation is expected to begin early in June.

The work is being undertaken in conjunction with Arabian Aluminium Company.

"The cladding will be in Dubai in May," Greg Sang, assistant director of projects, Emaar Properties, told Construction Week.

"There's some preliminary work to be done. We'll probably hang the first panel in early June."

Cladding work on the tower - set to be the world's tallest - has been delayed for almost a year after the originally appointed contractor, Schmidlin Façade Technology, was replaced after going bankrupt.

Despite the delays, Emaar has said that the tower is on schedule to be completed by the fourth quarter of 2008.

The Burj Dubai's exact height has yet to be publicly revealed. Emaar has said that the tower will have at least 160 storeys.

The main contractor on the project is a joint venture of Samsung, Besix and Arabtec.

The tower was designed by US-based Skidmore, Owings & Merrill (SOM).

or has it?
so now in june???

1km is small for me ...

Why do you all think that 1km tall is impossible....maybe a 20km tall is impossible..but even that I doubt...we will build in the future much taller buildings...
