Obviously he is not talking about skyscrapers in general, just this particular design, and I agree at this point. Our friend TechE (Skytower's source) promised us that the redesign would begin at level 76, but even Skytower admitted a couple of days ago that there has been no change from the original 700/800m plan up to this point. At this point I don't think the design could be changed to 1000m without looking ridiculous.

Think about this:

2007.feb.03 Late last year 7DAYS saw a confidential document relating to the project in which Emaar recognised that they would have to scale back their ambitious 808-metre target height for the tower to just over 700 metres. The reasons for this downward reversion came from a combination of time constraints and the aforementioned construction difficulties. more

One thing is certain about the height, if they didnt plan for 1km from the beginning, by now it is impossible to change the design. And nothing is pointing at that they ever had a 1000m design at all. 1000 meters after all is a big step, and a jump from 800 to 1000m is to i believe.

This photo give me an idea. With a solar almanac and an aerial photo, you could use the length of BD's shadow to calculate its height. All that is required is noting the point where the shadow ends at mid-day.

You guys can't use Google Earth to measure the height of buildings under construction, for the simple reason that the sat. photos are not updated frequently. I think they try and keep them current to within three years, obviously the photos of Dubai are only a few months old, but they don't take new pictures daily, weekly or even monthly.

^i think everyone knows that. there not measuring from google earth. only distances whch are very accurate.you have to know a height of a bldg and line it up in foreground with one in background you are trying to find out height of.
