i'm quite shocked to see Cheong Fatt Tze Mansion so black in colour....

guys, TYW, pablo, cooltemper, its only thru your postings that i know where to visit and that made things easier.

myself & my travel companions were so impressed with the historical buildings and the only guide book we need to bring was for penang food, keep up the news from pg esp on restored buildings. sad to see the former chinese school building on city end of northam rd in so poor condition mayb cant b saved

oh, glad to hear that our posts helped

the chinese school...you mean shih chung school? that's horrible...there were plans to build a columbarium there a few years ago and the school will sit in the middle of it. the plan was shot down and no news of new developments till now. but i was glad it was not built too. imagine the columbarium and offices and mansions side by side...

the original colour of the mansion was indigo imported from India! but apperently you can get it anymore as India does not export it now

for further informations ask Cheong Sze Hoong...he visit to this mansion more than everyone in Penang

...probabaly he think that this mansion is his house or his ancestral's house to be exact

The color of that building is simply SUPERB! Too bad India has ceased exporting it.

So let's hope it's long lasting -- the effect, as I say, is breathtaking.

EDIT: my, this is a very HOT thread! So I take that remark about sze's relationship to the building back ... but only the first part.

Why?

Because szehoong is just as remarkable as the blue of the building.

Mr Cheong Fatt Tze had many many wives, so mayb there is some relationship thru other wives. You can also now stay in the mansion, it has 16 rooms and was full when I visited, but feels a bit eerie!!
