A few meters away from Kongen's Nytorv we find the old port of Nyhavn...

Over the years it was been home to all sorts of people, most known is probable Hans Christian Andersen who lived here in the 1870's

Today most of it is small restaurants who serve typical Danish seafood - but the main income, is as it should be, generated by selling ice cold Danish draughtbeers to be enjoyed in the sun...

DLL scouting the terrain

And this brings us to the last of the April 12 series - Amalienborg Palace and the Marble Church...

Both areas started construction in 1750's... Amalienborg at that time was ment to be the home of 4 wealthy merchant families, but after a fire at Christiansborg Castle ( now home of the Parliament as well as the royal throne-room) the Royal family desided to move there... tough luck merchants

Surrounding the nearby Marble Church is some of the most exclusive apartments in Copenhagen, I sure in heck wouldn't mind living there...

It's a place I hold very deer as I used to be part of the Royals Guards who protects the area - and have certainly spend my time there...
I also think that the Marble Church is by far the most beautiful chruch we have in the country...

So I can guarantee you this IS an area that will be revisted later in the thread... ( at a time with better lighting and less alcohol in my blood )

Anyway, let's get started shall we...

Amalienborg - the Crown Prince's Palace

A Royal Guard..

The guest palace... for guests

The Marble Church...

Uptown living...

That's all folks... until the next time!

Well, tough luck maybe, but they were paid quite a large sum to hand over the buildings. Not to mention that they got the land for free in the first place. So no reason to pitty them.

One familly are still pretty well off today, the Moltke Family. They later bought another huge Mansion in Copenhagen called Gyldenløves Palæ, later Moltkes Palæ in Dronningens Tværgade, when A.W. Moltke was prime minister. They are stil one of the biggest landowners in the country, centered around Bregentved Gods.

I agree that from the outside they look good, though some of them could do with a bit of a clean up, but on the inside they are not that exclusive, and quite small (100-130 square meters). They were not build for the very rich, (who had their own house in the city), but for the people who were well of. Good comservative citizens who wanted to be close to the Royal Family. But with a little renovation, the apartments could be very nice...And I would be okay with a pad there too....

Anyways, I am glad they you plan to spend more time in this area, one of my favorites in the city. So many beautiful building and churces....

Oh, and nice pics btw....

They wouldn't let us in at the guards room on A-Borg... and peeing in a church is too wrong - even for an atheist such as myself.... and when you gotta go you gotta go

( I pee'ed on a small patch of grass btw - doing my part for a greener city )

ANYWAY.........

The City Hall Square looks like a Scandinavian Times Square, really cool. When are you gonna take some nightshots there?

Hah, 21ºC here would only mean WINTER hah, so nice!

The Marble Church is awesome, its cupola resembles the St. Peter Basilica and the palace is great. BTW this Nyhavn place must be one of the most pleasant places in Europe to sit in the afternoon and have a beer, so beautiful. I definetly wanna visit Copenhagen someday!

(i still havent payed back my debt to him for walking into the picture...)

but that doesnt change the fact that you purposely took that photo of Nyhavn with me standing in the middle! You could have easily waited until i had walked away but NOOOOOOOOOO you decided to include me into it so that's why I demand you give me 500,000 plus an extra 300,000 dollars just for the hell of it!!! And if you don't... i'll... get Jan to suspend you from S&B for a week!! How'd you like that?!?!

30C and over is normally reached for a couple of days every summer, but generally it stays around 25 or so.

^ Yeah, a good summer day is around 28C - but keep in mind we're almost completely surrounded by sea, so the humidity is a bit up there making it feel warmer...

Late July - early August is the best time as there can be a little rain in late June... but like Southern England it's always a gamble when it comes to the weather..

Generaly though - the last couple of years have been exelent - no reason to thing this year will be any different
