So what are the plans ? And yeah, nothing to worry about, the violence the media is exaggerating are mostly in the north, you will be surprised to even hear that stuff is going down in the north when you are in the other parts of the country.

I'm guessing that you all would be wanting to hit the beaches, Go down south, you won't regret it

Well, I don't think you are going to do anything in the 'dangerous' areas. Its all good

In SL beaches sun is up there all year around. The average yearly temperature for the country as a whole ranges from 28 to 30 Celsius. Hill areas are about 12-16 Celsius.

Oh and Colombo Night Life might be one of the Sub Continents best, so no worries there. Have Fun !

Attacks could occur at any time, anywhere in Sri Lanka. Tourist could inadvertently become victims of violence directed at others, in particular Sri Lankan government and military targets.

- warning issued by Australian Govt

Attacks if they happen, do not target tourists since the LTTE fear the consequences alot. I'm guessing that the 2002 Bali bombing might have caused more tourist causalities than from everything that has happened in SL.
But yeah, read your country's travel advisory.

guys lets keep it to possitive publicity about Sri Lanka.

The Aussie govt. or the western media usually are a bit paranoid about safety and their word doesn't have to be taken as the 'bible' although it is important to asses the situation in Sri Lanka as at hand. Sri Lanka in general is very hospitable, and if not for the war is one of the friendliest places to visit be it north or south. Again perceptions vary about safety. I know friends here who have cancelled their trip to Sri Lanka ( even though it is to the safe south ) while I know another guy ( British ) who backpacked to Trincomalee and Nilaveli beach ( in the war torn east ) right after the day the peace deal was signed. And if you ask Sri Lankans themselves, there are many migrants who return back home or visit their relatives even if they live within what someone seem to namecall as the 'stupid assholes in the North' territory and return back safe and happy, while there are others who will go paranoid even at the thought of flying a Sri Lankan Airlines flight even to Colombo.

So I think it is up to you to decide mate.. personally I beleive.. going by stats tourists have never been targetted or drawn into the war. And lets not politicise it any further. Thanks
