The original design anyway.
It reminds me a lot more of Q1 than anything else. It borrows much of its design from the Surfers Paradise skyscraper that is currently the world's tallest residential skyscraper.I like this better than Q1 as it uses the glass Q1 was meant to have used on its facade. I do think each tower is a little too far appart though, they would look better a little closer together. That new design above is really ordinary.

I really like this new concept computerised image, much cleaner and fresher than the old one and it actually looks around 615 metres without cheating spires. Beautiful.

FROM A RELIABLE SOURCE
My uncle happens to be an insider in the Korean construction industry. He answered some of my questions over drinks and dinner. KORAIL/Yongsan Tower (this thread): design TBD, but something tall will actually happen there. The Seoul city government has thrown its weight behind this design. Lotte Jamshil: http://www.skyscrapercity.com/showthread.php?t=474259 The city government has approved the tower. The problem is that the Korean Air Force must also approve it - the tower is in the flight path of a military airport. The key player is apparently the US Air Force - as South Korea's alliance partner, it would be using the Seongnam airport. From what I heard, the US Air Force has no problems with the design - and has gone on record saying so. Lotte was so confident that they put a team together to build the building (including my uncle's company). However, the current South Korean President is anti-chaebol (large business group), and wants to prevent "speculation" in that part of Seoul. He is putting political pressure on the South Korean Air Force to block the building. My uncle had to restate his financials because the expected revenues from construction never materialized. Expect the building to start rising in early 2008 - as soon as a new President has taken office. Sangam Digital Media City http://www.skyscrapercity.com/showthread.php?t=516927 Rumor has it that this was Lee Myung-bak's pet project while he was Seoul mayor. The current mayor (Oh Se-hoon) appears to be favoring the Yongsan project over the DMC for the simple reason that KORAIL is really pushing hard. While the project may be dead for now, I wouldn't be surprised if Lee Myung-bak decides to push for it after becoming President (as is likely). Tour Financial Hub Center http://www.skyscrapercity.com/showthread.php?t=516577 While it was actually a serious project, it is now completely and irreversibly DEAD. The City of Seoul looked at the project, and decided that it was too close to the cultural relics (e.g. palaces) of the old city - such a supertower would be detrimental to these relics. Thus, they have decreed something like a 150m (?) height limit within the old city walls. However, the city has decreed that it would wholeheartedly support projects outside the city walls (especially Yongsan). Northeast Asia Trade Tower http://www.skyscrapercity.com/showth...=516582&page=2 This tower is DEFINITELY under construction. When I poked around Incheon, I was able to take a look at the construction site. The subterranean work has been completed, the core is done - and the tower is starting to rise. BTW: the actual height for this tower is 305 meters, NOT 300 as commonly believed (according to the signage at the construction site). I didn't hear anything about some of the other crazy ideas floating out there, but I doubt that they'll actually build anything big in Ilsan or Daejeon. I also don't think that they'll build anything in the Cheongna District of the Incheon Free Economic Zone - it's slated for ENTERTAINMENT purposes like a GOLF COURSE. But any new project announced for Seoul or the Songdo area in Incheon should be taken seriously. Hope this clarifies the crazy situation with the proposals coming out of Korea. |

Yeah, thanks jnchoi for the inside info. We obviously can't trust press (most) releases out of Korea for the big projects, but insider trustworthy goss is good

Front page of a Korean National newspaper had this today
... same company building Burj Dubai was selected. Inside article in the paper had info. My Korean may not be right but I think it is now approved and will be 620m. Info and renders below. The renders in the paper were a bit better than on the net. http://www.koreatimes.co.kr/www/news...123_13024.html |
