How's the construction for SHS? Has the crane been taking down? What about cladding?

ya..i agree. besides that I was thinking also they could work with Sandakan Yacht Club to build a bigger and new yacht club with yacht parking facilities near the water front to made it more like attractive as a water front.

Just for discussion.....if I was very very rich or a billionaire, I would buy up all those old buildings (eyesores) in Sandakan CBD, tear it down and rebuild it with modern designs hotels, service apartments, theme parks outdoor or indoor like Time Square, tourists attraction sides, shopping centres, underwater world, Cinemaplex, craft markets, Palm Oil Museum (help to explain more to those foreigners to correct for their negative perceptive about it) etc to make Sandakan CBD as a tourists oriented CBD.

I ve read many tourism blogs about Sandakan and many tourists who visited Sandakan CBD had said it has nothing much for them to do...small and boring!!..just a transit point to sepilok, kinabatangan, selingan..etc

Just my personal opinion!! may be other got better ideas to turn it into a better place for tourists!!

First obstacle may be that very many of those "old buildings" are already owned by very very rich people from timber days of old ........

ya...that's why they leave it there without really bothered by it because they are rich and not really affected by the Sandakan economy!! they can survive even on the interest of bank and lazy to do investment anymore !!

The interior design for Sandakan McDonalds looks quite similar to Miri's Permy Drive Thru and Bulan Sabit Drive Thru... congrats Sandakan...

MAS to resume Sandakan-KL direct flights Feb 18Posted on January 17, 2012, Tuesday

KUALA LUMPUR: Direct flights between Sandakan and Kuala Lumpur are expected to resume on February 18.

According to a statement from the Prime Minister’s Office yesterday, the move would bring the frequency of direct flights between KL International Airport (KLIA) main terminal and Sandakan to 11 times weekly.

The statement was issued after a meeting between Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak and Malaysia Airlines senior management to discuss various issues relating to the operations of the national carrier, including moves affecting consumers in Sabah and Sarawak.

“Among the issues discussed was the reintroduction of direct flights between Sandakan and Kuala Lumpur in recognition of existing and growing demand for premium direct full service connectivity between Sandakan and KLIA main terminal,” the statement said.

Sandakan, on the east coast of Sabah, is the state’s second largest city.

“The Prime Minister applauded MAS for taking into consideration the request of consumers in Sabah, especially the residents of Sandakan,” the statement said.

MAS said in a statement that the re-introduction of direct flights to and from Sandakan will allow for more international travel via KLIA to meet the growing network demand for premium connectivity to and from Sandakan with MAS’ international destinations.

International visitors interested in Sabah’s unique wildlife would thus have a more direct access to sites in Sandakan such as the world’s largest Orang Utan sanctuary at Sepilok, pygmy elephants and proboscis monkey at the Kinabatangan river and Turtle Island.

MAS would provide a frequency of 11 times weekly direct flights between KLIA Main Terminal and Sandakan, starting from 18 February 2012.

The impact of the hotel tower to the skyline isn't that strong because of its enormous base! Those windows look weird, as if they were randomly placed here and there.

And thanks for those photo. Its coming up well..

I suppose the excitement/anticipation/apprehension would be somewhat similar to when Centre Point Sabah came to being at KK ? Though I suspect the gestation period for SHS may be far less than that endured by CPS ?
