Manchester, UK - old and new

Here are some pictures I took earlier this week in Manchester, UK. Hope you enjoy them.

One of the most striking features about the ************ of the **** is the constant juxtaposition of the numerous modern projects with the 19th Century red-brick Victorian warehouses and factory buildings, now usually converted into apartments or offices and the stone civic buildings from the same era.

The recently completed 171m Beetham ***** is the tallest ******** in the UK outside ******, you can see it from all sorts of angles throughout the ****.

The CIS ******** was the previous **** tallest and has recently been totally reclad in solar panels.

One interesting district I didn't get time to go to was The Northern Quarter, in this part of the **** you can find a bit of everything, shops selling rare records and vintage clothing, Islamic cable TV stations, sex shops, jazz clubs, a Buddhist centre, martial arts acadamies, a craft centre, dirt-cheap Pakistani and Lebanese cafes and some of the ****'s most fashionable bars. These photos were taken by forumer Markydeedrop.

WOW!!!

Hey, next time I come to England, I'm putting Manchester at the top of my "places to see" list. What a world-class ****. I love the mix of old and ***, although that Beetham ***** needs a couple of friends as it looks rather lonely.

It does stick out at the moment but there are other talls planned/approved including one at 188m, check out the Manchester Developments Thread for details.

Not always, but this time of year it often is. The weather was terrible while I was taking these photos, it's not normally so bad!!

Yes, the **** suffered a lot during the 60s, 70s and 80s from deindustrialisation but it has now successfully reinvented itself and the economy is growing very well.

Interesting read......

That Eastgate Tower looks amazing....when will construction start? Fine city with the best freeway system in the UK, I might add.
