Some life and some landscaping, a treed waterfront will be a big improvement over what we have. You have to admit though, the city's done a lot over the past few years to correct over a century of mistakes. Not to mention more on it's way in a relatively short period of time.

Not at all, my bike takes up too much space in my apartment. I'm seriously considering a fold up. Though I will prep myself for the harassments I'll get.
You do see what's behind the bike?

My first bike was a fold-up and I still have one. The small wheel diameter takes too much effort beyond recreational use.

I just wish this complex had a retail or cultural component on it's main floor. Since it's on the waterfront and has public access to the boardwalk, they plan to build, it should have some amenities for public use, including washrooms. That's my only issue with this project. Other than that, it's a pretty nice looking building.

Well, at least the public will still have access to the water. In many cities a condo like this would be a gated community, with no waterfront access to the public. (think Miami) I am grateful this city doesn't allow that or I'd be freaking out! lol

Well, I think the development of East Bay Front just to the east of this site is going to create all the retail that's needed in this section of town, perhaps too much if anything.

Despite the downtown location, there really probably isn't the required traffic to support much retail here, nothing to the south and not much traffic from the north.

All in all I think it's a fantastic project, mid-rises along the waters edge I prefer hands down over anything taller. Plenty of access to the water front, in reality this development will probably create the first opportunity in those lands existence to actually be enjoyed by the residence of this city.

Where do you see retail on the east waterfront? Both Corus and George Brown Collage have no retail, as far as I've seen, except for a restaurant inside Corus. What did I miss? And even that is not close to Pier 27, which will be located on the west side of Redpath, so you'd have to walk all the way around Redpath and back, just to get a coffee. I'd say that's going 10 mins out of your way. You'd be better off going to The Harbour Castle Hotel but you shouldn't have too. There should be convenient amenities, restaurants and cafes all along the waterfront. It is a pedestrian area, after all. It also helps to animate the promenade.

Well, of course you don't see the retail at East Bayfront, they need to build East Bayfront first which is admittedly going to take a bit of time.

but, eventually there will be 1,000, 000 square feet of it when all is said and done, including 1.5 km of a waterfront promenade filled with cafes and the like.

As for it being too far, I wouldn't say it is. It's much less then a 10 minute walk to pass Redpath from pier 27 unless my memories has failed me completely - but sure, from pier 27 to the middle of the upcoming East Bayfront - 10 minutes seems reasonable, to me if people find 10 minutes of walking too much for them they really need to reassess their situation, I think that's an entirely practical distance.

I don't know what you were expecting/hoping for in terms of retail here, it's basically as of right now mostly a barren wasteland of asphalt, with buildings sprinkled around it with almost no foot traffic and all traffic mostly passing through.

They could never have planned major retail to go along with these two mid rises structures. A variety store and a coffee shop is about all that could survive right now on that site, maybe. Have patience, with time greater things might be sustainable, I mean they haven't even poured a column yet and we're fretting over the sites amenities.

If retail is to come to sites adjacent to this one it will only come once the population's use of the area dictates the commercial need, not before.

Again, as for the 10 minutes out of the way via foot, I'd say most people would love to have that type of accessibility to services in their neighborhood. Also, the plans to revitalize the Queens Quay ought to help bring in more diverse business.

Excellent condo project but a landmark, public facility would've been preferable. I believe there's a Phase III and even a Phase IV in the pipeline, which may be too much of a good thing. We'll see.

You know, out of all the construction and great towers being erected across town, these types of developments make me the happiest.

Those waterfront lands are begging to become something great.

Update Thread Heading

Not too sure but should this thread be updated to reflect that it is under construction?

It still shows as Proposed. Not that I am nitpicking.

I agree that the potential is great here. From the photos above, it's scary how great that area could be. But right now it looks pretty bleak.

if they build a TTC line (LRT or Streetcar) this area can be extremely vibrant within the next 10 years.

That is the plan. They will build a streetcar line along Queen's Quay East and also one along Cherry Street, through West Don Lands. I think it will be built in time for the Pan-Am Games in 2015.
