Some of those commieblocks are beyond any hope I am afraid. Also, I bet many of them are structurally unsafe, considering the quality of other objects/goods/buildings that were made during the Cold War. IMO, the only hope is that they are one day demolished....the sooner, the better.

As far as I know they are not falling apart. It's only a myth, and most of them are in a pretty good technical condition. But to be honest, I'm not really into construction and engineering, so I won't expand on this topic

the problem with commieblocks is that they are a great asset. Mostly old people live in them and they don't understand the value of $$. Plenty of investors tried their best to buy some of that awful commieblock property but with no success.

The problem here is not the $$ is the mentality of old people. I used to have a neighbour that had a huge empty lot close to the airport. He hold on to that lot and wouldn't sell it to the airport for nothing. He always thought he could get more with the next offer. Well, he died and the airport bought off some other property and now no one cares about his lot.

I'm sure its the same thing in Warsaw. Old people hold on to their commieblock until they die, thinking some day the investor will pay them as much as they dream. Not until the next generation gets a hold of these commieblock properties, that soemthing will change. That said I think the only way of getting rid of these ugly commieblock is when they simply fall apart from age. No one is that stupid to invest $$ into renovating a commieblock in the middle of the city center that will dissapper one day, either from age or demolition

Thing is that Polish commieblocks are in good condition all over the country, in recent years huge money was spent for renovation and nowhere in Europe you would find them in such a good condition as they are in Poland, so unfortunately, we will have to deal with them for a while longer.

Commieblocks in Poland are not social housing but mostly regular middle class neighborhoods it didn't changed that much from the transformation, sure they are cheaper than all this new appartment houses with fences, bodyguards and stone on facades but they are not too cheap either. Some poorer people live there too but if they can't pay the rent they will be most likely kicked out, social housing is mostly concentrated in crumbling XIX century buildings so the social situation is completely different to London or Paris and nothing suggest that it will change in the foreseeable future. They will not demolish thousands of buildings that make whole districts of Warsaw and many other cities just because some people think they're "too boxy", "communist" or something they would probably have to destroy or re-develop whole infrastructure built for this districts because it's not really compatible with traditional planning which would require tons of money that we will probably never have.

The myth that they are falling apart is probably just an anti-communist lie. They are dirty, ugly and have some chips missing here and there, but they're strong.

Sorry, but this post has soooo many errors. None of the projects, which are said to be in "preparation for construction" actually is in prepration. Echo doesn't have construction permit, site looks like this after the demolition of the previous building. Nothing is happening on the site. Mennica - no construction permit, there are occupied buildings on the site, which aren't even being prepared for demolition. The earliest possible construction start is 2014. Liberty Tower - no construction permit. Prime Corporate Center - it has construction permit, but they are looking for tenants, no preparation works on the site. Acceptance - what does it mean? This is bunch of projects (besides UBS, Atrium South, BBI and maybe PHN and Emilia) which should be described in terms of science-fiction. Maybe they will be build, or maybe not. Maybe they will look like on these renders or maybe not. Demand is not unlimited.

Nothing happening currently besides the one residential project being under construction. The construction permit had been obtained by a previous company, and than Port Praski investor bought the land together with construction permit. So things went faster with it. I wouldn't call the whole project dead actually - it's quite new and quite big, so there are still chances it will get build, but some time definitely has to pass

It's just some crazy vision, not a realistic project.
