It wasnt supposed to be the tallest building in Europe, that's fo sho. Ofc it's it won't be +300 or smth. But current project looks ok, I guess...

At the moment of its unveiling it would be the tallest in the continent, but the old article doesn't mention Moscow's towers that were already under construction, so they might have kept Russia out of the list. If that was the case then it would be the tallest building (roof height) right to the completion of Shard.

Veteran Centre officially opened in Warsaw

Prime Minister Ewa Kopacz took part in the official opening ceremony of the International Mission Veteran Centre, which is set to provide support for military personnel who have served abroad.

The centre is also to popularise Poland’s international military efforts, increase awareness of Polish rotations as well as foster the memory of injured and killed servicemen and women while on missions abroad.

“We are proud of you, Poland is proud of you,” said Kopacz, adding that “you are serving Poland, but in reality you are serving the free world, a world where values such as dignity, human rights, freedom and sovereignty are worth fighting for, sometimes paying the highest price.”

Following the ceremony PM Kopacz met with veterans and their families to share the oplatek Christmas wafer.

The opening of the Veteran Centre falls on the third anniversary of the most tragic incident in the history of Polish international missions, when five Polish soldiers were killed in an explosion in Afghanistan.

Since the 1950s, around 100,000 Polish personnel have been sent on international missions. Currently, around 11,500 Polish servicemen and women hold ‘veteran’ status. (jb)

Wow, the statue component of the memorial mentioned a post before the one above is quite ... retro. Very "I'm a socialist monument built in the brutalist style."

Are there any prospects for the demolition of the "Za Zelazna Brama" buildings along this street?

impossible to do. Some developers were paying big $$ for these small condos but unless every single person in the building accepts the price and is willing to sell their place ... nothing can be done. Its much easier to wait 10,20years till some of these folks pass away or the buildings will simply be unfit for living standards and will have to be demolished.

But hey, even la defense has them ^_^ so as u can see, they are not that easy to get rid of ;] there is like 200+ people living in each one of em ;]

Actually they already were renovated in the '90 but I guess some refreshing wouldn't hurt as long as they don't change the color scheme.

There are 300-420 flats in each building. Developer would have to buy every single one to demolish the building, what is practically impossible, as there is little chance that every single person would agree. Also probably some of the owners are abroad, would be hard to contact them etc. What is more, there are still lot of empty plots in the city centre, so why to pay for a massive amount of flats + demolition costs? There is no way such project would be economically feasible. Last but not least, I live there, so go away
